The Role

The main focus of this position is to provide advice and guidance in various tax areas relating to new business initiatives within Booking.com, Booking.com Transport or Fareharbor. You proactively support (Senior) Tax Managers with their end to end responsibility from scoping the issue/challenge (incl. budgeting) to the overall solution (execution and implementation), including the stakeholder management.

As a tax generalist you are keen in broadening your tax expertise and support the team driving the company’s compliance with a wide range of tax regulations (indirect taxes, corporate taxes, employment taxes and other local (income) taxes), including supporting identifying tax risks of new and existing practices, through research, analysis and providing implementation support.

As a Senior Tax Consultant you will work at the headquarters of Booking.com in Amsterdam (6,000 employees with over 100 different nationalities), where almost our entire tax department sits. The Booking.com tax department currently consists of approx. 35 persons, which are working in either one of the two business focused teams (Accommodations/Fintech BU and Trips BU) or in the tax compliance & controversy and tax technology teams. You will sit in the Trips BU team, which is a multi-tax disciplinary team dedicated to supporting the Trips organization (incl. car rental, rides, flights, insurance, attractions) and advising on employment tax matters. You will report directly to the Tax Director. The tax department is part of Booking.com’s international Finance team (approx. 1000 professionals, mostly based in Amsterdam).

The role involves close interaction with the entire tax department (Booking.com and Booking Holdings Group), various business teams, our international offices, functional teams and other finance colleagues in Amsterdam and Manchester. Therefore it is essential that you have excellent management and communication skills in English.

Key Responsibilities

  • Translate business activities into tax implications and translate tax developments into business implications
  • Work on key tax challenges in different areas of content and geographies for various tax disciplines
  • Help coordinate & manage (a portfolio of) complex tax matters that may span across multiple departments, domains and/or geographies
  • Proactively support (Senior) Tax Managers with their end to end responsibility from scoping the issue/challenge to the overall solution, including stakeholder management, driving issue resolution, initiating the needed change management and monitoring
  • Liaise and collaborate with the other tax verticals/horizontals regarding global tax compliance across the business
  • Evaluate and adopt emerging AI technologies to support optimization of tax processes, enhance data quality, and support decision-making, while contributing to the company’s digital tax strategy through the integration of AI tools into tax service delivery
  • Support on complex topics, including the coordination of project portfolios
  • Conduct technical analyses for tax challenges
  • Help coordinate & manage the work of our tax advisors

Requirements of special knowledge/skills

  • University degree in Tax Economics/Law or similar degree
  • Between 4 to 7 years of working experience within a big 4 and/or international environment
  • Experience with taxation of digital economy (e.g. electronic services, DST, similar topics) is a plus
  • Strong research skills to analyze new tax legislation and implications and experience working with (massive) data sets
  • Experience in effective communication, multi-tasking, stakeholder management and strategic networking
  • Accurate, able to work under pressure and to strict deadlines, and comfortable working in a fast turnaround environment and managing multiple priorities simultaneously
  • Experience with data analysis and technology (e.g. AI tools)
  • Excellent communication skills (both written and verbal) in English
