Financial Systems Data products team is the one source of truth to most of B.com financial data, as a platform that serves all the Finance towers we are a one stop shop for data and analytics capabilities. The leader of this group will be the link between our finance organization and our data products.

Role Overview

As Senior Data Engineering Manager, you lead multiple teams of data managers and data engineers responsible for one of our most critical assets: data. You combine deep technical expertise with strong people leadership to design and deliver scalable, governed data solutions across the company, both batch and real-time. You mentor leaders in your teams, set consistent standards, and build frameworks and processes that ensure high-quality, reusable data products that support a wide range of product and insights initiatives.

Key Job Responsibilities and Duties

  • Own the design of logical and physical data models and data domains that meet business requirements and fit Booking.com’s workflows and infrastructure.
  • Map and optimize data flows end‑to‑end, developing scalable tooling and automation to manage the full data life cycle with proper controls.
  • Build robust, efficient data ingestion, batch processing and streaming pipelines that enable real‑time actions and fast, data‑driven decisions.
  • Define and enforce data quality, monitoring and reliability standards (SLIs/SLOs) to ensure accurate, timely and complete data across all assets.
  • Partner with senior leaders to set data definitions, choose appropriate technologies, and ensure solutions comply with data protection and governance standards.
  • Lead, mentor and coach teams, simplifying complex concepts, resolving cross‑domain issues, and driving continuous improvement across data engineering practices.
  • Champion the data management craft at Booking.com by sharing knowledge, training and mentoring, and scaling common tooling and infrastructure with central teams.

Role Qualifications and Requirements

  • Technical subject matter expertise and thorough hands-on experience in data focused teams (8+ years working in technology)
  • Experience in shaping and leading a data engineering function across multiple products or business areas (3+ years as a senior manager)
  • Strong knowledge of data modeling methods (Relational, Dimensional)
  • Strong knowledge of SAP Data Stack (HANA, SAC, S4) - a Must
  • Strong knowledge of Financial data structures and business process - a Must
  • Experience with designing end state solutions for Finance Towers (O2C, R2R, Treasury, Payments etc.)
  • Strong knowledge of data quality requirements and implementation methodologies
  • Strong knowledge of and extensive experience with data storage and processing technologies, e.g. MySQL, Kafka, Cassandra, S3, Spark, Flink, Snowflake
