Battery Storage Project Developer

• You develop energy storage projects – with a strong focus on battery storage – in Germany or the Netherlands.

• You act as the central point of contact for the latest commercial, technological, and regulatory developments in battery storage across all Eneco countries.

• You contribute to expanding Eneco’s portfolio of flexible energy capacity.

What you’ll do

You will initiate and lead battery storage projects, aligning optimal project solutions with internal and external stakeholders up to the investment decision.

As an expert in battery storage, you stay ahead of new trends and developments in this rapidly evolving market. You understand the regulatory landscape and contribute to lobby efforts. With your expertise, you help shape the long-term strategic position of Eneco’s Flex Value Chain and support other teams such as Eneco RES Belgium or LichtBlick in project development.

You also bring:

• At least 7 years of relevant work experience and a university degree (BSc/MSc) in (Electrical) Energy, Sustainable Energy, or a comparable field.
• Proven ability to bring together diverse internal and external stakeholders and foster commitment to shared goals.
• Strong knowledge of energy markets and battery storage.
• The ability to make decisions and deliver results in a dynamic environment.
• Excellent communication and negotiation skills with the ability to present compellingly and translate complex topics into clear messages.
• Strong analytical skills with the ability to identify key project parameters and optimize them.
• Fluent in English, good command of Dutch and German.

You’ll be responsible for

• Lead the project development team from early stage to final investment decision (FID).
• Define the optimal business case from a market, technical, or commercial perspective.
• Work closely with teams such as Portfolio Optimisation, Asset Realization, Asset Operations, Procurement, and Engineering to achieve the strongest business case and reach FID/COD quickly.
• Stay informed about commercial and technical innovations in close collaboration with Procurement.
• Manage relationships with external stakeholders, including landowners, permitting authorities, and grid operators.

This is where you’ll work

You will work from Eneco’s headquarters in Rotterdam, close to Rotterdam Alexander train and metro station. The Development BESS NL team is part of the broader Development department within Eneco’s Flex Value Chain. This team develops, invests in, realizes, and operates sustainable assets such as electrolysers, battery systems, and industrial energy solutions.

As a Battery Storage Project Developer, you join a growing team of around 15 professionals with diverse backgrounds. While each project developer manages their own projects, teamwork is essential, and you collaborate frequently with teams such as Portfolio Optimisation, Engineering & Realization, Eneco Business, and Regulatory Affairs.

Hybrid working: home, office or abroad
