Junior Data Scientist – Data & Analytics Early Career Program (Eureka/Kardia)

Are you passionate about data and love solving complex analytical puzzles? Challenge yourself and make an impact with the Advanced Analytics Early Career Program at Rabobank. Grow your skills, discover your potential, and help us uncover new possibilities for Rabobank.

The role

As a Junior Data Scientist Transaction Monitoring you can help protect society from Money Laundering & Terrorism Financing. Our team develops and maintains the analytics models that monitor the transactions of 8+ million Rabobank customers. In order to be effective in fighting financial crime, we need talented individuals like you, who get their energy from looking into data, patterns and behavior of our customers. In our multi-disciplinary team filled with smart and driven colleagues from a variety of nationalities we have space for two additional young professionals.

  • Position Eureka: You work very closely with our Transaction Monitoring stakeholders and make sure they have the data insights needed to make decisions. You do this by answering ad hoc questions, standardizing/automating recurrent analyses, and by working on products that our stakeholders can use independently, such as dashboards and structured data products.
  • Position Kardia: You will contribute to the Transaction Monitoring Data Model, a sophisticated PySpark-based code repository that runs daily to produce a Data Layer for downstream teams. Together with your squad members you dive into the codebase and translate business requirements into concrete improvements, applying strong software engineering principles throughout.

Please let us know if you have a clear preference for one of these positions. We are also happy to find out what is the best fit together with you in the interview process.

Practical examples

  • Work with Anti Money Laundering experts to understand what they need to make decisions, and work closely with data science colleagues in our analytics environment (Databricks) to provide solutions and insights. (Position Eureka)
  • Help increase the potential of our TM system by investigating how new data sources can be integrated into our data landscape, or by expanding the framework and efficiency of the data model. (Both positions)
  • See your code in production: learn how to write production-ready code (Python, PySpark) and optimize its performance. (Both positions)
  • Learn and share knowledge: participate in knowledge sharing sessions, present your work to fellow data scientists, and pick the brain of your colleagues. (Both positions)
  • Be part of our team: join us while we work towards the same goals, learn from our mistakes, and celebrate our successes. (Both positions)

You and your future

During our Early Career Program, you’ll develop your career over 18 months by becoming an expert in your field. Throughout the program, you’ll stay with one team and receive training to enhance your hard skills. You’ll be paired with a buddy who will guide you in navigating the bank. For your personal development, you and your fellow starters will follow the Early Career Program and receive guidance from a Data & Analytics Development Consultant. We’re here to prepare you for sustainable career!

About 10-15% of your weekly working time is spent on personal development, training and other activities. The other hours are spent working within your team. Every Friday afternoon is Data & Analytics Early Career Program afternoon at the office!

Your development as a Young Professional

Within this program, you will have the opportunity to get to know yourself, your trade, and Rabobank. You will start the program in a junior position within one team, participate in (online) workshops and training modules with other young professionals, and quickly gain practical experience.

Together with the Data & Analytics community there is room for creativity and initiative to organize events, training sessions, and knowledge-sharing sessions. This way, we continuously improve the program and ourselves! You will easily build a large and valuable network within the bank.

You and your talent

  • Recent MSc graduate or PhD with less than 2 years of working experience

  • Strong analytics skills and programming skills in Python
  • Communicative, pro-active, structured, and can work well with different people and roles

  • Motivation to catch criminals by making our TM system more effective; in other words, you are motivated to build models that realize measurable impact for the bank and society, not necessarily to build the most complex advanced analytics models

This is what we offer you

  • € 4007,83 gross per month (scale 7), plus 8% holiday allowance and a thirteenth month salary.
  • An Employee Benefit Budget of 10% of your monthly salary to be used at your discretion (e.g., buy extra holiday hours, add more to your pension savings, or have part of the extra budget paid out).
  • € 1,400 development budget per year for your growth and development.
  • Hybrid working: a combination of working from home and working from the Utrecht office. Mandatory office days are Monday and Thursday with the team and Friday with ECP.
