About this internship

At TNO, we aim to improve human health. This internship contributes to the development of an at home do it yourself satiety test. At the moment we have a set-up running, however we would like to test alternatives. Your work will be to set up a pilot test with different types of breakfast to investigated which format would be the most suitable for our studies. Ultimately this will help to classify different satiety phenotypes.

What will be your role?

You will set up a pilot experiment with different types of breakfast to validate which approach is the most suitable for application in remote trial design. The aim is to evaluate different types of breakfast for their satiety and satiation component but also their pleasantness to consume and ease to prepare yourself at home.

Key deliverables:

  • Protocol for a pilot experiment: Develop a robust protocol to assess the satiety component of breakfast consumption.
  • Pilot study: Execute the pilot study within a small diverse study population.
  • Data-Driven Recommendations: Write data driven recommendations on the outcomes of the pilot study.

What we expect from you

You will design and refine the current breakfast satiety protocol. You will run a pilot trial investigating the appropriateness of the protocol, add alternative breakfasts (in type and energy content) and report the outcomes. You will work within a multidisciplinary team of nutritionists, bioinformaticians, microbiologists, and data scientists, collaborating to advance TNO’s nutrition research through innovation, knowledge-sharing, and practical application.

We are looking for a motivated and curious student with strong analytical skills and a passion for human studies. You are a team player, proactive, and eager to learn.

Hard skills:

  • Master’s degree (in progress or just finished) in Nutritional Sciences, Health Science, Medicine, or related field.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Familiarity with clinical studies.
  • Familiarity with data collection and analysis.

What you'll get in return

You will, of course, be properly supervised during your work placement and be given the scope for you to get the best out of yourself. Furthermore, we provide:

  • A highly professional, innovative internship environment, within a team of top experts.
  • A suitable internship allowance (615 euro for wo-, hbo- and mbo-students, for a full-time internship).
  • Possibility of eight hours of free leave per internship month (for a full-time internship).
  • A free membership of Jong TNO, where you can meet other TNO professionals and join several activities, such as sports activities, (work-related) courses or the yearly ski-trip.
  • Use of a laptop.
  • An allowance for travel expenses in case you don’t receive an OV-card.
