As a Data Analyst, you are a member of the Data Analysts team within the Safety & Compliance Organization (SCO). Our team consists of 8 people with diverse backgrounds and experience. Together, we are responsible for analyzing data from the KLM SMS (Safety Management System).

Think of sources like flight data from aircraft and (text) reports about all kinds of safety-related incidents that our approximately 30,000 KLM and KLC colleagues experience daily. We receive questions from managers, safety investigators, and safety officers from various departments. Together, we look at which data and analyses can provide objective answers that help our colleagues gain new insights.

What will you do?

Being a Data Analyst within the SCO is a varied job in which you will handle many data requests from both inside and outside the department. For this, you will use multiple data sources and techniques. With your knowledge of the processes, you assess the suitability of the data and provide the correct interpretation of the analysis results, enabling various stakeholders to further improve KLM’s safety. You will collaborate with level 2 Data Analysts on the use of, among other things, AI and NLP (Natural Language Processing) to further professionalize the handling of data requests.

Where do you land?

You will join KLM’s Safety & Compliance Organisation (SCO), a department that plays a proactive, expert role in the daily implementation and application of KLM's safety vision. Through advanced professionalization of activities and the consolidation of all safety expertise, we support colleagues, the company, and suppliers with integrated, overarching advice on safety in the four Safety domains: Operational Safety, Occupational Safety, Environmental Safety, and Operational Security. In addition to the Data Analysts, there is an “Event Analysts” team that processes and forwards newly received text reports on a daily basis. There is also a separate “Data & Technology” organization that manages the data flows and databases and automates many common analyses for us.

Your profile

We are looking for an enthusiastic colleague who enjoys thoroughly investigating matters, and who is curious and eager to learn.

In addition, you have:

  • A higher professional education (HBO or equivalent) diploma, preferably in the Aviation, Data, or Safety domain;
  • Knowledge of flight operations and/or ground handling;
  • Experience with programming and/or querying databases (for example SQL, Python, R, BigQuery, Matlab, C++);
  • Knowledge of and experience with identifying trends and patterns in data, and clearly visualizing and communicating results.
  • Experience with or interest in AI, Machine Learning and NLP (Natural Language Processing) is a plus;
  • Fluency in Dutch or English, and at least a basic level of the other language.
