Master Internship – Developing a Dedicated Diagnostic for Calculating Belt Slip for a 48 Volt Motor Generator P0

Development of an on board diagnostic to differentiate between belt slip monitoring and broken or damaged pulley

The current calibration process for Heavy Duty Diesel Engine Diagnostics is encountering many challenges, such as maximizing driver comfort, minimizing emissions, and satisfying regulatory requirements. With every iteration, the complexity of the DAF engine is increasing, making it more difficult to efficiently handle all data and properly calibrate the engine. To tackle this problem, a concept for a general optimization engine diagnostic calibration tool has been developed, which will become the Swiss Army knife for diagnostic calibration in the future. As this tool is still in its early stages of development, it presents an interesting opportunity to make a significant impact on how engineers perform their work. The tool will optimize efficiency, reduce failures, and enable excellent data handling.

Your activities will include:

  • You will work on a dedicated test bench for a 48V system
  • You will work closely together with experienced engine developers
  • Your main goal will be to develop the diagnostic interface in order to successfully pinpoint various failure modes for the 48V P0 System
  • Your secondary goal will be to understand motor generator behavior and its interaction with all different FEAD components

Requirements:

  • Basic understanding of combustion engines and an interest in automotive technology
  • Knowledge of coding in MATLAB is a must
  • Basic knowledge of engine test cell operation
  • Experience with data handling and processing
  • Background knowledge of optimization is a plus
