Optimize the last (crucial!) miles to our customers’ doorsteps

How do you make our customers happy?

By ensuring we fulfill our same-day and next-day delivery promises—without fail. With 13.7 million customers choosing from 48 million products sourced by 46,500 partners and shipped from multiple warehouses, that’s no small feat. As the Senior Product Manager of Outbound Steering, you lead the product team that dynamically steers outbound operations, continually optimizing how and when we collect, pick, pack, and ship orders. Through advanced algorithms, data science models, and intelligent steering, you balance efficiency, capacity constraints, lead times, and sustainability. Your innovations directly impact how happy customers are with us.

The biggest challenge

Balancing competing priorities in a system where every decision ripples through the entire logistics network. The most efficient picking route isn’t necessarily the fastest. Cost optimization can conflict with sustainability goals. Capacity constraints can alter by the hour. How do you steer operations when the variables keep changing? Some outbound processes are already fully optimized, which means it’s time to explore new opportunities. Think AI applications, further automation, and smarter capacity management. But innovation may never disrupt the flow that millions of customers depend on. You’ll need to push boundaries while keeping our operations running like clockwork.

What you'll do as the Senior Product Manager of Outbound Steering

You’ll join the Customer Order Fulfillment (COF) team within Core Warehousing, where you’ll lead the Outbound Steering team. Your team consists of 5 Software Engineers, a Logistics Process Engineer, and a Data Scientist. You also have access to Product Analysts and Designers at the group level. Together, you ensure that customer and partner orders are picked, packed, and shipped efficiently while maintaining quality and correctness.

You are in charge of both optimization and exploration. You maintain and improve the algorithms that guide daily outbound operations—finding the sweet spot between picking efficiency, capacity, and lead times. Simultaneously, you lead product discovery to improve our capacity management, quality, sustainability, and efficiency. You’re not afraid to challenge the status quo and explore how data science can transform current operations. The team is ready to disrupt!

This is a hands-on product leadership role. You work collaboratively with your team, clarifying requirements, removing hurdles, managing dependencies, and ensuring everyone subscribes to the same definition of success. You own the product strategy and roadmap, balance technical and business innovation, and translate discoveries into concrete improvements.

  • Lead product discovery initiatives to identify new outbound process opportunities
  • Explore and implement new technologies, including AI, to improve current operations
  • Set the product strategy and roadmap, balancing short-term needs with long-term vision
  • Define KPIs and shape quarterly OKRs that drive measurable impact
  • Enable your team to be high-performing, thrive, and focus on delivering real value
  • Maintain and prioritize the product backlog based on customer and business needs
  • Manage cross-domain and cross-department alignments and dependencies
  • Translate discovery into improved or new services
  • Monitor market trends and competitive developments in logistics technology

Why you can make a difference

You combine 3-5 years of product management experience with a genuine affinity for logistics and e-commerce. You’ve led cross-craft product teams before—working with engineers, data scientists, analysts, and logistics specialists—and understand the complexity this entails. You’re data-savvy and ingenious, constantly querying data, finding ways to measure the unmeasurable, and designing experiments with analysts. Your ability to balance strategic thinking with hands-on execution truly sets you apart. You can define product strategy and maintain a clear roadmap while effortlessly diving into daily team collaboration mode when needed. You’re comfortable with ambiguity, energized by change, and skilled at aligning diverse stakeholders around a shared direction. You lead by example, and others naturally follow.

3 reasons why this is (not) for you

  • Stress-sensitive: A challenging, high-pressure environment where logistics deadlines are non-negotiable doesn't bring out your best
  • Solo solver: Figuring things out yourself always beats talking with users and collaborating across teams
  • Stability seeker: You crave predictable project plans and find constant change more draining than energizing
  • Opportunity hunter: You thrive on discovering new possibilities. Exploring AI applications, challenging the status quo, and pushing outbound operations to the next level? You’re game.
  • Complexity clarifier: You know how to enable high-performing teams across engineering, data science, and logistics, translating complexity into clear direction
  • Change embracer: You're energized by evolving challenges and don't need to know exactly which projects you'll work on six months from now

Where you'll work

At one of the best-known online retail tech platforms in the Netherlands and Belgium. A platform where 13 million customers can choose from 46.5 million articles. A platform that helps 51,000 partners run their businesses. And a platform that will never be finished—bol has been reinventing retail since 1999, and there’s always room for further improvement. If there’s a better way to do something, we’re working on it. You’ll join Core Warehousing, where the rubber meets the road: every algorithm you improve and every process you optimize directly impacts millions of deliveries. Ready to steer outbound operations into a very bright future?

Perks of having a blue heart
