We are currently looking for a Senior Thermo-Mechanical Analyst to join the team in Delft.
As a Senior Thermal-Mechanical Analyst, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the conceptual design of cutting-edge optomechatronic systems within a research group. You will work at the intersection of high-tech domains, collaborating closely with experts in Optics, Space Systems Engineering, and Nano-Instrumentation. Our mission is to strengthen the global leadership of the Dutch mechatronics industry by developing next-generation solutions for Space & Science, Semiconductor Equipment, and the Manufacturing Industry. You will lead mechanical and thermal-mechanical analysis, guiding design decisions and ensuring that complex systems remain stable and high-performing under extreme conditions.
Lead Analysis Activities: Take ownership of mechanical and thermal-mechanical analysis to guide critical design decisions.
Multidisciplinary Collaboration: Work alongside mechanical/optical designers, flow modeling specialists, and systems architects to develop and validate prototypes.
Strategic Influence: Balance various physics domains to achieve robust, high-performance solutions for our customers' most challenging technical problems. Your expertise will influence strategic design choices.
Mentorship: Guide and mentor junior engineers, sharing your expertise in simulation and precision engineering.
Education: MSc or PhD in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related field, with a strong focus on Finite Element Analysis (FEA) and computational modeling.
Experience: 7–10 years of relevant experience in thermal, mechanical, and vibration analysis within high-tech or precision engineering (e.g., Space, Aerospace, or Semiconductors).
Background: You have worked on complex, multidisciplinary projects, successfully applying multi-domain analysis and optimization techniques to achieve robust, high-performance designs.
Software Expertise: Expert-level proficiency in ANSYS, COMSOL, or similar high-end simulation platforms.
Technical Skills: Strong experience with static, thermal-structural, and vibration simulations applied in complex industrial environments, plus familiarity with system-level modeling tools like Python or Matlab.
Domain Knowledge: Solid understanding of industrial norms, such as ECSS standards, and ideally experience with topology optimization or multi-physics modeling.
Documentation: Proven ability to produce high-quality technical reports, design documentation and analysis summaries that support decision-making at senior levels.
Communication: Excellent command of English (written and verbal) and the ability to explain complex technical insights to various stakeholders.
At S&T we contribute to a safer life on earth by translating space data into valuable and actionable insights. We oversee data from instruments to application, and apply our expertise within our software frameworks, information products and consultancy.
Our society relies on space and scientific instruments for climate change monitoring, navigation, defence and national security, and other crucial services we all use in our daily lives. These instruments produce an enormous quantity of complex data, and our goal is to unlock its value.
We have more than 20 years of experience working on instrument calibration, the creation of data quality monitoring tools, the development of real-time data processing frameworks, and the development of application-specific algorithms. With this, we help organisations, governments and industries to strengthen their information position and thereby improve their decision making. We focus on the following domains: Space & Science, Defence & Security, Environment & Sustainability, and High-Tech Consulting.
