As a Station Coordinator, you are responsible for the day-to-day coordination, quality, and development of the Interaction Station. You act as the primary point of contact for the station and work closely with your team, other station coordinators, course leaders, and management. Over time, your role expands to include coordination across multiple stations.
You lead and support a team of instructors and lecturers who are responsible for support and education regarding technical skills and creative research in the field of interactive media. You ensure a high-quality, coherent educational program and contribute actively to curriculum development and improvement.
You are responsible for translating a shared, future-oriented vision on interactive digital technologies into higher arts education. You ensure that research and emerging technologies are embedded within the station and motivate your team to critically and actively engage with these developments.
In addition, you are responsible for the overall organisation of the station. This includes planning schedules, coordinating teaching and instruction hours, managing the use of workspaces, and ensuring that facilities operate smoothly. You manage inventory, maintenance, and orders within the station’s allocated budget, including management and depreciation costs.
In this role, you identify opportunities, propose practical solutions, and connect management, administration, your team, and available resources. You provide structure and oversight within the station and create the conditions that enable your team to perform their work effectively.
You also build and maintain a relevant external network of partners, suppliers, and innovative companies, strengthening the station’s connection to current professional practices.
The Willem de Kooning Academy, Rotterdam University of Applied Sciences (WdKA/RUAS), offers a variety of bachelor and master’s programs in the field of visual culture, art, design, education in arts, and leisure management. The curriculum of the Willem de Kooning Academy is founded on an interdisciplinary ethos. The Majors are the entry point of study for all Bachelor students; in the second half of the Bachelor programs, students collaborate with their peers in interdisciplinary projects; and the highly unique Stations (advanced workshops focused on Research through Making) complete the three pillars of the institute.
The stations are centres of knowledge and expertise. They are both physical and non-physical locations that cover both traditional as well as innovative technologies. The stations are at the vanguard of the developments within the professional field and the processes of production that are relevant for the art and design practice. Stations are not only a space of execution and production, but also a space in which tutors, instructors and students question why we make, how we make and for whom we make. Stations are part of a collaborative effort (an educational instrument) to develop a student-driven curriculum that supports self-directed learning.
In the Interaction Station we focus on a broad array of creative (digital) technologies, from programming, machine learning, and AI to augmented and virtual reality, electronics, and real-time 3D.
We take an open and experimental approach to technology, acknowledging that the definition of interaction is constantly shifting. We like to experiment with new tools, technologies and hardware, and take a critical eye to developing technologies and how they can be appropriated for creative uses. We’re equally interested in how older technologies can be re-evaluated in contemporary contexts.
The instructors and teachers in the Interaction Station come from a variety of backgrounds, with diverse sets of expertise. We’re here to help students develop their ideas into working projects, providing individual consultation, instructions and lessons.
