Are you a systems engineer with experience in the quantum industry? Are you looking to apply your knowledge and skills in a wide array of quantum- and high-tech projects? Then you are the engineer we’re looking for!

About Demcon

Each one of our companies differentiates itself in its own domain with unique expertise and skills. This way they help customers improve their performance and achieve more. On the basis of their passion for technology our companies are able to combine forces. By sharing knowledge and working together we increase our social impact. Demcon high-tech systems is a multidisciplinary development and engineering partner for mechatronic challenges, from concept to realization, in the field of high-tech systems.

What are you going to do?

As one of our senior systems engineers equipped with knowledge of the quantum industry, you are our go-to person when we want to pull in and execute quantum projects. These can be across different domains, such as quantum computing, quantum communication and quantum sensing.

You help our project managers and business developers in understanding what the customer wants. Once a project starts, you use your technical insight and experience to lay the groundwork for the architecture and system breakdown within your project. You have a direct line with the customer and the project team to come up with the system requirements. You are responsible for the correct identification, definition and management of requirements along with defining verification methods for these requirements. You are able to gauge the impact of requirements on each other and on deliverables by means of e.g. error budgets. This is where your conceptual and analytic skills come to the fore.

During the entire development process you keep track of the technical risks and design progress for your work packages. When design decisions need to be made, you are one of the principal players and guide the discussion, e.g. by means of trade-offs. Furthermore, you support the other engineers in your team in a coaching role.

In the detailed design and assembly and test phase, you dive into the details and work closely together with the rest of the team to achieve a system which can be built and verified. At the conclusion of verification testing you make sure all requirements are satisfied, and if not, take steps for mitigation.

You will be assigned to quantum projects, but also other challenging high-tech projects in the semicon industry or where complex physics-related mechatronics is involved.

You will be working in multidisciplinary teams, with external development partners and in regular consultation with customers. Communication and cooperation are therefore vitally important to achieve the results we strive for.

What do you bring to the table?

  • You have completed an MSc or PhD degree in Physics, Material Science or similar.
  • You have a minimum 2 years of experience working in a systems engineering role within a quantum or quantum-related company.
  • You can work independently, shoulder big responsibilities and have communication skills to explain your work to others.
  • You enjoy coaching other engineers.
  • You have a willingness to help our business development team in the quantum field to attract new projects and customers.

What do we offer you?

At Demcon we have a ‘flat’ organization where people can easily find and help each other. We value a comfortable and inclusive workplace. There is a lot of emphasis put on personal needs and we discourage overtime, because we know how important work-life balance is.

Furthermore, you can count on, among other things:

  • A good, market-based salary;
  • 31 days off and 8% vacation allowance;
  • Possibility to work from home, maximum 2 days a week.
  • A good pension plan at Zwitserleven;
  • The opportunity to follow training and courses through the Demcon Academy, or externally, so you can further develop your knowledge;
  • A laptop and mobile phone from work;
  • Bicycle plan;
  • Active employee association (monthly activities such as drinks and an annual Demcon weekend) and annual sporting events.
