You will join the Data Science group within Innovation & Design, acting as a competence center for Philips. The team focuses on maintenance services for image-based modalities, specifically Image-Guided Therapy systems (IGTs). Daily work involves data science projects aimed at optimizing and improving maintenance services. The team is based in Eindhoven and expects interns to work on-site.

As a Generative AI Engineer Intern, you will design and build innovative and ethically responsible Generative AI solutions that address real-world problems, balancing technical feasibility with user needs and business impact. Your work will contribute to Philips’ growth in healthcare and directly impact patient outcomes.

Your role:

  • Design, train, and evaluate NLP and LLM-based solutions for use cases such as: Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG), information retrieval & search, chatbots, structured information extraction & named entity recognition, text generation and summarization.
  • Clean, preprocess, and curate data for evaluation, fine-tuning, and training.
  • Work closely with stakeholders to understand business needs, formulate problems, and deliver data-driven insights.
  • Stay up to date with the latest advancements in Generative AI research and integrate new techniques into development.
  • Contribute to optimizing maintenance services for IGTs using data science and AI tools.

You're the right fit if:

  • You hold a Bachelor degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field, and are currently obtaining a Master degree in a relevant field. Bachelor students can be considered if the requirements are met.
  • You have at least one year of hands-on experience developing NLP and ML/DL solutions in an academic or professional environment.
  • You are proficient in Python and relevant libraries for data science and deep learning (e.g., NumPy, Pandas, TensorFlow, PyTorch).
  • You have a strong understanding of classic NLP and experience with LLMs, such as RAG, prompt engineering, data synthesis, automatic evaluation, and fine-tuning.
  • You are familiar with cloud computing platforms.
  • You have excellent communication skills and a collaborative mindset.
  • You have strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail.

How we work together
We believe that we are better together than apart. For our office-based teams, this means working in-person at least 3 days per week.Onsite roles require full-time presence in the company’s facilities.Field roles are most effectively done outside of the company’s main facilities, generally at the customers’ or suppliers’ locations.

Monthly full-time allowance between €500 - €700 gross, depending on educational level and if you would need to relocate to The Netherlands. If you will perform a part-time internship you will receive the allowance pro-rata.

Housing compensation, in case of relocating to the vicinity of the office, €300 net if location is in the vicinity of Amsterdam, €255 net for all other Philips locations. You need to provide a rental contract of the landlord, and your normal home-work travel distance needs to be more than 50 km or travel time (one way trip) needs to be more than 1.5 hours. Travel compensation, if you are not eligible for a free public transport card; you will receive max. €192 net. Paid holidays per internship term.
