Axia is an international breeding company specializing in vegetable seeds for heated and unheated greenhouse horticulture. Our company was established in 2010. We started with a team of four and now have more than 90 people working here. Our experts work day in and day out on developing and breeding new varieties. In the breeding process, we focus on taste and quality combined with good yields. For this, we make use of the most modern research and development facilities.

Role Overview

The Assistant Breeder supports the development of new plant varieties by assisting in breeding activities, data collection, and trial management. This role is critical for ensuring accurate execution of breeding plans and maintaining high-quality standards in research and development.

Key Responsibilities:

• Assist in planning and executing crossing programs.
• Manage greenhouse and field trials, including planting, maintenance, and harvesting.
• Collect and record phenotypic data on key traits (growth, yield, quality, disease resistance).
• Support marker-assisted selection and sample preparation for genotyping.
• Maintain accurate breeding records and databases.
• Coordinate seed processing, storage, and inventory management.
• Monitor plant health and report any issues promptly.
• Collaborate with breeders, technicians, and research teams to achieve breeding objectives.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Plant Breeding, Agronomy, Horticulture, or related field.
• Basic knowledge of genetics, plant physiology, and breeding methods.
• Experience with greenhouse and field operations.
• Familiarity with data collection tools and software (Excel, breeding databases).
• Strong organizational and communication skills.

Preferred Skills

• Experience with molecular markers and lab techniques.
• Knowledge of statistical analysis for breeding data.
• Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
• Languages: Fluent in English, Dutch is a pre.
