Join TomTom's mobile navigation team to design world-class experiences that move millions of drivers worldwide. We're seeking a passionate Senior Interaction Designer who combines deep automotive navigation expertise with data-driven design thinking and AI innovation to create intuitive, safe, and engaging mobile applications for drivers. You'll be part of a global UX team, collaborating with dynamic cross-functional product teams to create user-centered solutions that simplify navigation while meeting critical business goals and safety standards.
What you'll do
- Design exceptional mobile experiences for automotive and in-car navigation applications that balance driver safety, usability, and engagement across Android and iOS platforms, including CarPlay and Android Auto
- Leverage AI tools and technologies to enhance both the design process (prototyping, testing, iteration) and product capabilities (personalization, predictive features, intelligent assistance)
- Create high-quality, scalable interaction flows and detailed specifications for mobile applications, ensuring seamless handoff to cross-functional teams
- Drive data-informed design decisions by leveraging usage analytics, A/B testing results, user behavior metrics, and real-world driving data to validate concepts and optimize experiences
- Partner closely with Product Managers, Engineers, ML/AI teams, Researchers, and fellow Designers to innovate features that enhance driver experience while navigating evolving priorities and roadmaps
- Define and track key UX metrics including task completion rates, time-on-task, error rates, driver distraction levels, feature adoption, AI feature effectiveness, and user satisfaction scores
- Conduct and facilitate real-world driving tests and usability studies to validate designs in authentic driving conditions
- Lead design workshops and design sprints to synthesize user insights, solve complex problems, and drive rapid innovation
- Provide design leadership through influence, critical thinking, and positive collaboration across the organization
- Mentor junior designers on both craft excellence and effective use of AI tools, elevating the team's capabilities through design critiques and knowledge sharing
What you'll need
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in UX, Interaction Design, HCI, or related field
- 5+ years of interaction design experience, with substantial recent experience designing mobile applications, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, ADAS systems, or automotive navigation driving experiences
- Strong portfolio demonstrating mobile-first navigation design, preferably with measurable impact on user behavior and business metrics
- Experience designing AI-powered features or products, with understanding of how to make AI interactions transparent, trustworthy, and valuable to users
- Demonstrated ability to leverage AI tools to improve design workflows (e.g., generative design, rapid prototyping, content generation, user research synthesis, design system automation)
- Expert knowledge of designing for Android and iOS platforms, including proficiency with design tokens, modern mobile front-end technologies (e.g., Jetpack Compose), and platform-specific design guidelines
- Proven ability to design for automotive contexts with deep understanding of driver cognitive load, distraction principles, and safety-critical interaction patterns
- Strong analytical mindset with experience leveraging quantitative data (analytics, heatmaps, funnel analysis) and qualitative feedback (usability testing, interviews) to drive design decisions and measure effectiveness
- Experience defining and tracking UX success metrics such as task success rates, time-to-complete, error rates, engagement metrics, AI feature performance, and NPS
- Full proficiency in Figma and ability to create rapid prototypes for testing in realistic driving scenarios
- Demonstrated ability to balance user needs, technical constraints, and business requirements with empathy and creativity
- Excellent facilitation skills with experience organizing and leading design workshops, user research sessions, and cross-functional collaboration
- Outstanding communication and presentation abilities, comfortable influencing stakeholders at all levels and explaining AI features to non-technical audiences
- Valid driver's license with regular driving experience (multiple times per week)
- Passion for automotive technology, electric vehicles, AI innovation, and the future of mobility
Portfolio Requirement: Please include a link to your portfolio showcasing mobile navigation work, with emphasis on:
- Design process and methodology, including any AI tools used to enhance your workflow
- Mobile, CarPlay and/or Android Auto design examples
- AI-powered features or intelligent experiences you've designed
- How you used data and metrics to inform decisions
- Impact on user experience and business outcomes
