Internship | Critical logistical points of failure in the European military mobilisation

About this position

Current geopolitical developments stresses the importance of transport networks for military operations. The Netherlands and other NATO-members are required to provide assistance to allied military forces operating or transiting through their territory, both in peacetime and during conflict. To what extend current and future European transport infrastructure is able to provide sufficient transport capacity is unknown. Especially in relation to upcoming infrastructure renovation projects that can limit use of critical links in the multimodal European network.

What will be your role?

In this thesis assignment it is expected to analyse the military transport problem and the available infrastructure capacity given upcoming renovation projects. Developing a model where available network capacity and foreseen transport demand can be analyzed to identify critical points of failure and compare different downtime scenarios.
