Assist in advising Philips’ businesses on their acquisition and divestiture programs, thereby advancing Philips’ transformation journey as a global leader in Health Technology. The position provides a unique opportunity to experience M&A from a corporate value perspective within a very experienced M&A team, with a global scope. You will be working with large teams from businesses throughout Philips and operating independently, whilst dealing with dynamic and oftentimes challenging process timelines. Responsibilities rapidly increase for those who perform well.

Your role:

  • Assisting the M&A deal execution process from inception to closing, including valuation and financial analyses (DCF and multiples), assisting/managing due diligence processes, project management, drafting of process materials
  • Preparing presentations for the Executive Board, with and alongside people from Philips’ Business Groups and Markets
  • Performing company research and industry benchmarking using various databases (e.g. Capital IQ, Pitchbook)

The M&A team:

The global deal team of Philips M&A is comprised of approximately 20 specialists located in Amsterdam, Cambridge (USA), and Shanghai (China). You will be joining the Amsterdam team composed of about 10 people. The deal team is responsible for the entire execution process of different types of deals (buy-side and sell-side, joint ventures, large, mid-size, and smaller deals). In recent years, Philips M&A has successfully completed over 30 international M&A transactions including, in 2016, the IPO of Philips Lighting (EUR 4.5 billion) and the sale of Lumileds (EUR 2.0 billion). Philips is using these cash proceeds to acquire companies in the Health Technology space. In 2020 - 2021, Philips completed the sale of its Domestic Appliances business (~EUR 4.4 billion), reinforced its connected care segment with the acquisitions of Biotelemetry (~EUR 2.3 billion) and Capsule Technologies (~EUR 530 million), while expanding its image guided therapy portfolio by acquiring Intact Vascular (~EUR 300 million) to add an industry-first implantable device to treat peripheral artery disease.

You're the right fit if:

  • You have an excellent academic track record (preferably in Economics, Finance, or Econometrics)
  • You have a genuine interest in corporate finance, valuation, and financial markets
  • You are currently enrolled in a MSc program or in the last year of a bachelor program. You must be enrolled in a university during the internship period.
  • You possess a highly analytical mindset and a strong professional drive
  • You are a strong and open-minded team player who can work with various nationalities and cultures
  • You have modelling experience in Excel and neat PowerPoint skills
  • You are fluent in written and spoken English (Dutch is not required)
  • Relevant financial internship experience is preferred

How we work together

We believe that we are better together than apart. For our office-based teams, this means working in-person at least 3 days per week.

In return, we offer you:

A non-stop growth opportunity within a global multinational company. In addition, we also want to remunerate you well for the opportunity. This includes:

  • Monthly full-time allowance between €500 - €700 gross, depending on your education level and if you need to relocate to The Netherlands. Part-time internships receive the allowance pro-rata.
  • Housing compensation: Should you need to relocate near our office, we’ll offer you a monthly allowance of €300 net if the location is in the vicinity of Amsterdam, or €255 net for all other Philips locations. To be eligible, we’ll just ask for the rental contract from your landlord, and your usual home-work travel distance needs to be more than 50 km or 1.5 hours of travel time (for a one way trip).
  • Travel compensation: If you are not eligible for a free public transport card, you will receive up to €192 net as a monthly allowance.
  • Paid holidays per internship term.
