Careers at Royal IHC: Contract Manager

At Royal IHC’s head office in the Netherlands, we have an opening for a Contract Manager with extensive knowledge of commercial law and an equal amount of hands-on experience.

In your role as Contract Manager, you will be responsible for the commercial performance of a portfolio of complex contracts. In this exciting role, you will contribute to ensuring that Royal IHC is ready to deliver on our ambitious strategic goals, significantly increasing the scale, reach, and effectiveness of our work, while reducing our risk exposure on commercial contracts.

You will be part of the Contract Management team within Group Legal, providing guidance and advice on a wide range of contractual matters. You will support our business in various fields across the maritime industry, including dredging, mining, offshore, and defence. You will work closely with project teams and multiple other stakeholders across the business, and you will have the opportunity to contribute to the continuous development of Group Legal and the further development, implementation, and maintenance of our legal framework. You will be based at our shipyard in Kinderdijk, with occasional visits to foreign yards in case of building abroad.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Proactively managing, reviewing, monitoring, and administrating customer and supplier contracts (including appendices and other documents) in close collaboration with project management team disciplines (e.g. project management, control, planning, engineering, procurement, SHEQ, etc.) and corporate disciplines (e.g. legal, compliance, tax, treasury, and insurance).
  • Coordinating a smooth transition and contractual handover from sales to execution phase and supporting a professional and well-documented approach in the day-to-day execution of our projects, with the objective of protecting and documenting our (legal) position in projects.
  • Taking the lead in claim management in relation to (disputed) topics, and maintaining accurate records, correspondence, and logs for the same.
  • Assisting and advising on vessel flagging/registration activities and monitoring compliance with related (financial) security documentation.
  • Assisting with the further development and implementation of our contract management strategy and creating contractual awareness within your project team and/or the business.

To be eligible for this role, you must have:

  • 7-10 years of experience and expertise in contract management and/or (technical/commercial) project (engineering) management in an international setting.
  • Bachelor or Master qualification in (contract) law, preferably Dutch law.
  • Experience and expertise in contract law, particularly in relation to warranty, liabilities, and indemnities, both under civil law and common law systems.
  • Excellent communication and influencing skills, with verbal and written fluency in Dutch and English.
  • Ability to understand technical, contractual, and commercial risks and opportunities, combined with the confidence to flag, communicate, and/or escalate on these.
  • Natural inclination towards taking a proactive business partner role, acting in the best interests of our business. Demonstrable experience in claims resolution.
  • Excellent housekeeping mentality (record keeping).
  • Strategy-oriented, forward-thinking, and all-inclusive operator skills (on planning and providing solutions).
  • Sharp stakeholder engagement, capability of summarising and presenting detailed contractual issues for senior management consultation.
  • Comfort to thrive in a dynamic environment and eagerness to contribute to the further professional development of the organisation.

Royal IHC offers you:

  • Gross monthly salary between €5700 and €8354 (depending on your experience), plus 8% holiday allowance (based on a full-time working week).
  • Good work/life balance with 40 vacation days based upon full-time employment, with buy or sell options for (additional) leave.
  • €0.21 per kilometer commuting allowance.
  • Profit-sharing scheme.
  • The possibility to work from home with associated expense allowance and/or to perform the work on the basis of flexible working hours (depending on the position).
  • An average salary pension scheme in which matters are properly arranged in the event of accidental death, incapacity for work, or unemployment.
  • Good disability insurance.
  • Participation (on a voluntary basis) in the Social Fund, on the basis of which care and related costs that are not covered by your health insurance are reimbursed.
  • Discount on VGZ's additional healthcare insurance.
  • Training/educational budget.
  • Unlimited sporting in our own fitness room (in exchange for the sustainability employability day).
