Investigate the impact of part tolerances on engine performance through CAD assembly analysis. Gain hands-on experience with real-world engine components in collaboration with DAF experts.

Functiebeschrijving

Each individual part which composes an engine is manufactured to nominal dimensions with specific tolerances due to production processes and quality control. When the parts are assembled these tolerances can accumulate and potentially affect engine performance or durability. While calculating a complete engine's tolerance stack-up in CAD is highly complex, it is feasible for smaller assemblies.

The objective of this HBO graduation is to create several examples of such worst-case CAD assembly of parts. The student will begin by reviewing the nominal CAD models and identifying critical tolerances using design documentation. In collaboration with DAF experts, the student will construct realistic worst-case assemblies. The complexity of components will gradually increase, starting from circular piping to casted parts. Additional factors such as material properties or aging effects (e.g., soot buildup) may also be explored.

Jouw profiel

We are looking for a proactive and motivated student with a strong foundation in CAD design. Knowledge of diesel engine systems is considered a plus, and experience with Creo is highly desirable. Fluency in English is essential for effective communication within our international team.

You are currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree (HBO level) in one of the following fields:

  • Applied Physics
  • Mechanical Engineering
  • Automotive Engineering
  • Aerospace Engineering

Please note: Only students who are enrolled at an educational institution for the entire duration of the internship are eligible.
