Director Project Finance

Accelerate Europe’s energy transition and digital transformation by originating, structuring, and closing innovative, high-value project finance transactions.

You will shape the European energy transition and digital transformation by delivering high‑impact financings. As a Director, you will be part of a collaborative team and work on a diverse scope of deals across Western Europe; think onshore wind in Ireland, batteries in the UK, electric trains in France, solar in Italy, datacentres in Germany or sustainable heating and geothermal in the Netherlands. You will have regular client contact with top‑tier infrastructure investment funds, project developers, independent power producers and utilities operating across Europe. Transaction sizes range from tens of millions to a few billion EUR investments and are characterised by a high degree of complexity, enabling you to use your creativity and analytical skills.

• Close complex financings that enable large‑scale renewable energy generation or critical digital infrastructure.
• Build strong client relationships resulting in long-term partnerships that accelerate sustainable or digital investments across multiple European jurisdictions.
• Achieve repeat mandates through efficient deal execution and timely stakeholder management, driving strong risk‑return outcomes.

Top 3 responsibilities

• Active business development across the energy transition and/or digital infrastructure sectors, leveraging and expanding your network to originate, structure and execute complex project finance transactions, leading the entire deal process and ensuring compliance with Rabobank's corporate standards throughout.
• Collaborate closely with Project Finance Europe colleagues across varying deal teams, with various other departments within Rabobank and of course with our clients (incl. travel within the Netherlands and Europe).
• Proactively set up and lead internal working groups to monitor market developments and continuously improve the organization and development of the department.

Approximately 45 people in our Project Finance Europe team are responsible for originating, structuring, and executing complex project finance transactions in the energy transition and digital infrastructure sectors across the entire Western European region, fostering strong, long-term client partnerships. Working together is the way we work; as 1 passionate team at Rabobank.

In addition, the Project Finance Europe team is part of a global Project Finance community within Rabobank that consists of more than 100 individuals across Utrecht, New York, Hong Kong, and Sydney.

You & your talent

• 10+ years demonstrable experience in originating, structuring and executing project financing transactions across Western Europe.
• A relevant client network across the energy transition and/or digital infrastructure sectors in the Western European region.
• Commercial drive and a cooperative, can‑do attitude.
• Solid business development and analytical skills, strong risk awareness, solution‑oriented.
• Strong knowledge of project due diligence.
• Experience with financial modelling, (credit) risk analysis, and legal documentation.
• Fluent in English, both verbal and written; Dutch language skills would be beneficial.
