This coastal engineering graduation internship is a collaboration between Haskoning and DMC (member of BAM Group). The internship offers a rare chance to gain hands-on experience with 2D physical model testing on berm breakwaters, directly contributing to real-world solutions in coastal engineering. If you’re eager to make a tangible impact and expand your technical expertise, this is a great opportunity to do so.

What you will do as coastal engineering intern

As a graduation intern, you will conduct 2D physical model tests on berm breakwaters using a wave flume. The tests will be conducted with another student, but you will have separate research topics. Your primary tasks will involve investigating the hydrodynamic behaviour of the breakwater and specifically the wave transmission and overtopping. You will analyse and compare your experimental results with existing literature and empirical formulas used in the field, with the aim of deepening understanding and potentially proposing improved prediction methods for practical application.

  • Conduct a literature study on the hydrodynamics of berm breakwaters
  • Conduct 2D physical model tests on a berm breakwater
  • Analyse and interpret the results of the tests and compare to existing formulas

What you bring

Strong collaboration and communication skills are essential, as you will work closely with another student during the physical model tests, while pursuing separate research objectives. An open, proactive attitude will help you to coordinate logistics in the laboratory and to make the most of your internship experience. The following is required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering and currently finishing your master’s degree in hydraulic engineering or hydraulic offshore structures
  • Interest in coastal engineering and coastal structures

What you can expect from us

During your internship, you’ll have the opportunity to grow professionally in an inspiring and inclusive work environment. We offer support, guidance, and attractive conditions to help you get the most out of your internship:

  • Monthly renumeration of €750,- (fulltime)

  • Personal guidance from a dedicated mentor

  • Opportunity to contribute to impactful projects
  • Access to knowledge groups and development programs
  • Hybrid working and flexible hours

  • Informal and inclusive work culture with social and sports activities
