What you do as an Airport Pavement Specialist

As an Airport Pavement Specialist, you will work on projects across the globe, sometimes visiting project sites to ensure our pavement designs adhere to the highest standards. In this role, you will be responsible for:

  • Collection and interpretation of field investigation data.
  • Structural analysis of airport pavements worldwide.
  • Interaction within a multi-disciplinary team to ensure fully integrated pavement solutions.
  • Interacting with clients in developing state-of-the-art pavement design solutions.
  • Providing technical support to site supervision teams and advising on quality control matters.
  • R&D to further strengthen our worldwide reputation in the aviation sector.
  • Contributing to project proposals and business development.

This position offers global exposure, working on international projects and gaining valuable experience in diverse environments. You will be expected to travel for short and medium-term assignments to other countries.

Where you will work

At Haskoning, you will join an independent, employee-owned international consultancy that combines engineering, design, and consultancy services with software and technology. Our mission, "Enhancing Society Together," drives us to create a positive impact on the world.

We offer purpose-driven and challenging work in diverse international projects, leveraging our 140+ years of expertise. With over 6,800 employees in more than 25 countries, we work together to turn challenges into opportunities and make a real impact on society. We collaborate with leading clients in markets such as infrastructure, climate resilience, renewable energy, decarbonisation of industry, and sustainable mobility.

You will be part of our Airport Asset Design Civil advisory group in The Hague (moving to Delft in May 2025), working with approximately 50 colleagues on projects in the Netherlands and for international clients. As a designer, you will collaborate internally with other departments within NACO and RHDHV. With more than 40 nationalities and 230 colleagues at NACO, the working language is English. The team is very experienced and will gladly help you advance your career.

What you bring

You have a master’s degree in civil engineering, preferably with a specialization in pavement design, accompanied by 0-5 years of relevant experience. Alternatively, you may have 5-10 years of hands-on experience as a pavement engineer. You also bring:

  • Proficiency in pavement design methods, including linear elastic and mechanistic-empirical approaches.
  • Familiarity with software tools for pavement analysis and design.
  • Experience with specifying geotechnical and pavement investigations and interpretation of associated test results (e.g., analysis of Heavy Weight Deflectometer (HWD) test results).
  • Understanding of technical specifications and standards, such as FAA, ICAO, EASA, ASTM, and Euronorm.
  • A team player attitude with a problem-solving mindset.
  • Client orientation and the conceptual and creative ability to approach and solve complex problems.

What we offer you

At Haskoning, we believe that the well-being of our employees is essential to our shared success. That’s why we offer a comprehensive benefits package designed to support both your professional development and personal well-being, including:

  • Work-life balance: 28 vacation days (based on full-time employment), with the option to purchase an additional 16.5 days per year and to exchange three public holidays for days that are personally meaningful to you. We work in a hybrid model with flexible hours, a home office allowance, and a fully equipped home workspace.
