Contribute to the Electricity Grid of Tomorrow at TenneT

At TenneT, we work every day on the electricity grid of tomorrow. Our goal? A reliable, affordable, and sustainable energy system!

The energy transition calls for smart and decisive professionals. Within the System Integrity department of Energy System Planning, we work daily to manage electromagnetic phenomena so that the Netherlands can continue to rely on a stable electricity grid in the future. Will you contribute to this as a Power System Electromagnetic Transients Strategist?

Your Role

As a Power System Electromagnetic Transients Strategist, you will contribute to strengthening and renewing the Dutch electricity transmission system, ensuring the Netherlands can continue to count on reliable and renewable energy. You will be responsible for analyzing and modeling electromagnetic transients in power systems, working closely with cross-functional teams to develop strategies for mitigating transient-related issues and ensuring the reliability and stability of the power grid.

You will work in the Power Quality, EMC and EMT team within the System Integrity department, consisting of 12 colleagues. Together you work on ensuring that electromagnetic phenomena in the power system stay under control, an essential task for a stable and renewable energy system. Within our team there is an open and collaborative atmosphere, where innovation and cooperation are key.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct and supervise electromagnetic transient (EMT) studies to evaluate system technical performance due to grid changes, such as the introduction of long cable connections or the transition from meshed to radial operation in high voltage networks, and identify effective mitigation options.
  • Perform detailed electromagnetic transient studies using industry-standard simulation tools.
  • Develop and validate models for power system components and networks.
  • Support power quality studies relevant to the evaluation of amplification of background harmonic voltages, harmonic propagation, and rapid voltage changes.
  • Review EMT studies as part of the compliance verification process and develop and maintain internal policies relevant to electromagnetic transients.
  • Collaborate with engineering teams to identify and resolve transient-related challenges.
  • Act as the contact point between System Integrity and Asset Technology on relevant topics.
  • Provide technical guidance and recommendations for system improvements.
  • Prepare technical reports and present findings to stakeholders.

Your Profile & Background

At TenneT we are looking for professionals that contribute to our future electricity transmission system. We expect you to have the right experience and skills to make a valuable contribution to our team and our mission.

  • A finished Master or PhD education in Electrical Engineering or comparable. A Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field is also considered.
  • Deep knowledge of electromagnetic transients and power quality and their application in power systems.
  • Good understanding of power system planning, dynamics, and protection.
  • Experience with electromagnetic transient analysis and simulation software, including PSCAD and DIgSILENT Power Factory (required), and EMTP-ATP or EMTP-RV (advantage).
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in the power systems sector.
  • Excellent problem-solving and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Excellent command of the English language, both written and spoken. Proficiency in Dutch is an advantage.

What We Offer

TenneT offers you the opportunity to contribute to a sustainable energy future. Together with colleagues, partners, and stakeholders, you will work on innovative solutions that make the energy transition possible. You will have the space to develop your talent in an environment that puts your growth at the center. We believe in collaboration, forward thinking, and innovation.

  • Opportunity to work on cutting-edge projects in the power systems industry.
  • Collaborative and innovative work environment.
  • Professional growth and development opportunities, including through the TenneT Academy.
  • Hybrid working, including an internet allowance of €32.50 and a home-office allowance.
