As bunq’s Head of Regulatory Expansion, you will lead our journey to bring bunq’s digital banking experience to new countries around the world. You’ll secure licenses, establish local entities, and lay the foundations for future teams — ensuring that each new market combines regulatory excellence with commercial viability.
Take Ownership:
Lead international market entries — from country assessment and feasibility to license approval and local entity setup.
Own regulatory license processes — develop business plans, financial forecasts, governance and risk frameworks, and manage direct engagement with local regulators.
Build for scalability — ensure that each new market entry leverages bunq’s global infrastructure while meeting local requirements.
Shape bunq’s international growth story — connect licensing strategy with commercial opportunity, translating our “bank for digital nomads” mission into viable market propositions.
Assemble and guide teams — hire and coordinate multi-disciplinary experts (regulatory, legal, risk, operations) and manage external consultants and advisors.
Establish offices and governance structures — ensure compliant, operationally ready, and strategically aligned local entities.
Partner across bunq — work with Product, Finance, Risk, and Legal to align expansion with overall business and regulatory priorities.
Proven track record in international expansion or licensing (banking, payments, or fintech sectors).
Experience preparing license applications, including full business plans and financial projections.
Strong understanding of consumer or retail banking economics, ideally for cross-border or digital-first segments.
Successful experience in opening and developing international entities or branches (legal setup, staffing, operations).
Excellent stakeholder management skills with regulators, advisors, and internal teams.
A strategic yet hands-on mindset — capable of both designing the vision and executing the steps.
Leadership experience in fast-paced, international environments (5+ countries preferred).
Fluency in English; additional languages are a plus.
