Build and maintain cloud infrastructure at a global scale

As a Senior Systems Engineer working in our global infrastructure group, you will be responsible for building and supporting products across our Life Sciences portfolio. We have a mission to improve the developer experience, enabling product squads to deliver quality software to customers easily and quickly.

Responsibilities:

  • Maintaining and improving Elsevier’s products within agreed reliability objectives, whilst enabling the fast flow of feature updates.
  • Designing, building, and maintaining cost effective cloud environments as part of a product delivery team.
  • Contributing to common tools and modules which allows product delivery teams to move at pace across the full breath of the SDLC.
  • Supporting the on-boarding of products onto container platforms by working collaboratively with core engineering teams.
  • Debugging production issues across all levels of the stack.
  • Participate in an on-call rotation and embrace a blameless culture to prevent incidents from ever happening.
  • Providing engineering support across the portfolio, including the practical improvements on reliability, scalability, performance, and the security posture of products.
  • Seeking out and eliminating toil, so that you can focus more time on project work and lasting improvements.

Requirements:

  • You are an innovative, passionate engineer who likes solving problems at scale, has a keen eye for automation and efficiency.
  • Enjoy developing relationships with engineering teams and value collaboration and knowledge sharing to build technical expertise and community.
  • Can design and build CI/CD pipelines. You aim to make the deployment process as fast and boring as possible.
  • Know how to design distributed systems that scale using AWS, Linux and Kubernetes, ensuring applications are highly available and secure.
  • Have a good understanding of how tools like New Relic can help with determining the root cause of product performance issues.
  • Are happy in moving across the stack - from development to infrastructure operations.
  • You have advanced skills in AWS, Linux, Puppet, Jenkins, Docker, Kubernetes, Terraform and GitHub.
  • Have a passion eliminating toil, through automation and ‘Infrastructure as Code’.
