In a nutshell

As an AI Engineer at Picnic, you will design, build, and deploy AI systems powered by the latest advances in large language models (LLMs), vision-language models (VLMs), and generative AI. Your mission: transform how we work, how our systems operate, and how our customers experience Picnic.

You’ll go beyond prototyping: you’ll productionize AI applications, ensure they’re robust and scalable, and integrate them seamlessly into workflows and products. Working closely with product, analytics, and engineering teams, you’ll help identify the most impactful opportunities for AI and deliver solutions that create real-world value.

This role blends AI, software engineering, MLOps, and product thinking—you’ll be pioneering how foundation models can power a tech-driven supermarket at scale.

Tricks of the trade

  • Identify opportunities to apply LLMs, VLMs, and generative AI across customer experiences and internal operations

  • Build AI-powered applications, from ideation to production to continuous improvement

  • Extend and refine our internal AI platform to support scalable model deployment, monitoring, and evaluation

  • Stay ahead of fast-moving AI developments and translate them into concrete, pragmatic applications for Picnic

You could work on various projects and fields, such as:

  • Conversational AI copilots: empowering internal teams (analysts, engineers, operations) with intelligent assistants

  • AI-enhanced customer experience: smarter search, personalized recommendations, and natural interactions in the Picnic app

  • Vision + language applications: automating warehouse quality checks, item recognition, or packaging validation

  • Knowledge management & automation: connecting Picnic’s internal data with LLMs to accelerate decision-making

  • Generative AI workflows: tools for planning, creative assets, or operational scenario simulations

We’re looking for

  • Master’s degree or higher in AI, Computer Science, Mathematics, or a related field
  • At least 2 years of experience in data science or applied machine learning, with at least 1 year working with AI models (LLMs, VLMs, or multimodal models)
  • Excellent communication skills—you can explain AI capabilities and limitations clearly and work closely with stakeholders
  • Experience deploying and maintaining production-grade AI applications
  • Strong programming skills (Python, SQL; familiarity with modern AI frameworks)
  • Experience with Docker, Kubernetes, and CI is a plus
  • Curiosity and creativity in exploring new model capabilities—and pragmatism in applying them responsibly
