Introduction

ASML focuses on developing innovative solutions to maximize the production of extreme ultraviolet (EUV) light by harnessing high-power source lasers. The primary goal of this internship is to understand the relation between the acoustic matching material on the ringing of EOM (Electro-Optical Modulator). To achieve this, you will perform tests on different damping materials and thicknesses, measure the resulting transmission and leakage through an EOM, and observe the corresponding optical ringing. The final objective is to establish a correlation between the damping parameters and the observed ringing behavior. This project offers a valuable and hands-on learning experience for an intern.

Your Assignment

Your main tasks will include:

  • Read up on the work done and some literatures on the EOM ringing challenges and possible damping strategies;
  • Help in modifying the set up to measure ringing and perform EOM ringing test with various damping;
  • Analyze the effect of each parameters on the damping and determine the relation between the material properties and ringing behavior;

This is a Master graduation/apprentice internship for 8 to 12 months, working 5 days per week. The start date is as soon as possible.

Your Profile

To be a fit for this assignment, you:

  • Are studying a master's in Physics, Optics or relevant;
  • Are proactive and self-propelling;
  • Possess data analysis and problem-solving skills;
  • Have some hands-on experience in an optics lab
  • Preferable have some experience with numerical models;
  • Have good communication skills in English (verbal and written).

Other requirements you need to meet:

  • You are enrolled at an educational institute for the entire duration of the internship;
  • You are located in the Netherlands to perform your internship. In case you are currently living/studying outside of the Netherlands, your CV/motivation letter includes the willingness to relocate;
  • If you are a non-EU citizen, studying in the Netherlands, your university is willing to sign the documents relevant for doing an internship (i.e., Nuffic agreement).
