At Booking.com, data drives our decisions. Technology is at our core. And innovation is everywhere. But our company is more than datasets, lines of code or A/B tests. We’re the thrill of the first night in a new place. The excitement of the next morning. The friends you encounter. The journeys you take. The sights you see. And the memories you make. Through our products, partners and people, we make it easier for everyone to experience the world.

Role description:

As a Data Engineer II in Booking.com’s Growth Marketing department, you will design, build, and optimize the data infrastructure that powers our global marketing efforts, spanning campaign orchestration, targeting, measurement, and self-learning systems. You will work with real-time and batch data at scale, enabling teams to launch smarter, faster, and more accountable marketing programs.

This role requires strong engineering fundamentals, hands-on experience with streaming and cloud data systems, and a proactive approach toward operational quality. You’ll be a key contributor to our data foundation, while also helping less experienced engineers grow and succeed.

Key Job Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Design, implement, and maintain robust batch and streaming data pipelines to enable real-time and scheduled marketing use cases.
  • Ensure the operational health, monitoring, and automation of marketing-related data systems, while resolving technical issues.
  • Translate product and marketing requirements into scalable, privacy-compliant solutions that connect diverse datasets.
  • Collaborate with marketing, product, and ML teams to deliver high-quality data for experimentation, reporting, and model training.
  • Promote data standardization and governance, mentor team members, and drive continuous improvements in system architecture and observability.

Qualifications & Skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field, or equivalent professional experience
  • 3–5 years’ experience in data engineering or backend development
  • Proficient in Python, Java, or Scala; skilled with version control, CI/CD, and container-based deployment
  • Hands-on experience with distributed data technologies (e.g., Kafka, Spark, Hive, Snowflake, Airflow, Hadoop)
  • Strong knowledge of data modeling, quality assurance, schema evolution, and event-driven architecture
  • Experience designing and owning production-grade, scalable data pipelines
  • Comfortable collaborating across engineering, marketing, and data science teams; effective communicator
  • Understanding of privacy regulations (e.g., GDPR/CCPA) and marketing/data personalization systems

Benefits & Perks - Global Impact, Personal Relevance:

  • Annual paid time off and generous paid leave scheme including: parent, grandparent, bereavement, and care leave
  • Hybrid working including flexible working arrangements, and up to 20 days per year working from abroad (home country)
  • Industry leading product discounts - up to 1400 per year - for yourself, including automatic Genius Level 3 status and Booking.com wallet credit
