Passionate about language and tech—and ready to help teams localize smarter?

Want to shape scalable solutions and empower global teams?

About the team

Our central localization technology and expertise service delivers core localization infrastructure, linguistic assets, and expert guidance to teams across Elsevier. Since launching in 2021, we have rapidly expanded our support to a wide range of stakeholders, products, and use cases. Joining a small but high-impact, two-person team, you’ll play a key role in scaling our offerings and deepening our expertise.

We are part of the Operations, Data Science Health team but support teams across the entire business. This diverse and globally distributed group works in a matrixed environment to deliver scalable data science and localization solutions for clinicians, researchers, and students. The Localization Specialist will report to the Localization Solutions Manager (based in Amsterdam).

About the role

As a Localization Specialist, you will play a critical role in driving our global strategy and supporting our company’s international growth. Our localization service is based on a self-service model: we empower teams by providing the tools, language data assets, and localization expertise support they need to independently execute and scale their localization initiatives. In this role you’ll collaborate cross-functionally within a global matrixed environment, working with a variety of internal stakeholders ranging from content, product, data science, and technology teams, as well as external technology and language service providers.

Responsibilities

  • Providing expert consultation on localization processes and best practices, helping teams integrate localization technologies and AI solutions into their workflows;
  • Delivering day-to-day support, training sessions, and workshops to enable teams to adopt and excel in localization practices;
  • Creating, managing, and enhancing language data assets to support scalable, high-quality localization;
  • Acting as a bridge between content, technology, and vendor partners, facilitating clear communication and efficient localization operations.

One of your first projects will be supporting the implementation and onboarding of teams to a new video localization tool. This will involve creating glossaries, testing and monitoring quality, developing training materials, and conducting onboarding sessions to ensure successful adoption across teams.

A passion for combining language and technology is essential, as you’ll frequently advise teams on innovative solutions and the latest advancements in localization. Equally important is a proactive mindset: you take initiative, anticipate needs, lead discussions with stakeholders, and continuously seek out knowledge even in new or complex areas. This role has a lot of opportunities for growth with room to shape your own initiatives, deepen your expertise in areas of interest and gain broad exposure to a wide range of localization activities and stakeholders.

Requirements

  • Hands-on localization project management experience preferably in a technology-driven environment; internationalization experience is welcome;
  • Familiarity with localization technologies (e.g., TMS, NMT/GenAI, video localization) and best practices;
  • Experience creating and managing linguistic assets such as TBs, TMs, and style guides;
  • Comfortable learning and advising on new technologies and processes, with the ability to translate technical concepts for non-technical stakeholders;
  • Experience delivering training, creating instructional materials, and supporting non-experts in adopting new tools or processes is welcome;
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English;
  • Proactive, self-driven, and resourceful—comfortable taking initiative, solving problems independently, and seeking out learning opportunities;
  • Adaptable and able to communicate effectively across functions in a fast-paced, matrixed, and globally distributed environment;
  • Good organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple priorities.
