Join SNV as an Internal Communications Officer

We are SNV

SNV is a global development partner, deeply rooted in the countries where we operate. We are driven by a vision of a better world: a world where across every society all people live with dignity and have equitable opportunities to thrive sustainably. To make this vision a reality, we need transformations in vital agri-food, energy, and water systems. SNV contributes by strengthening capacities and catalysing partnerships in these sectors. We help strengthen institutions and governance, reduce gender inequalities and barriers to social inclusion, and enable adaptation and mitigation to the climate and biodiversity crises (SNV themes).

Building on 60 years of experience we support our partners with technical and process expertise and methodological rigour. We do this in more than 20 countries in Africa and Asia with a team of approximately 1,600 colleagues. By being adaptable and tailoring our approaches to these different contexts, we can contribute to impact at scale, resulting in more equitable lives for all.

Our core values of people-centeredness and respect, equity and equality, and diversity and inclusion are fundamental to who we are and what we do. This is reflected in our vision, mission, and strategy, which set out our aspirations and commitments as our compass towards 2030.

Job Description

We are currently looking for an Internal Communications Officer.

SNV’s Global Marketing, Communications, and Public Affairs (MCPA) team is a key part of the organisation and plays a critical role in ensuring that SNV’s communications are high-quality, compelling, authentic, audience-centric, and timely—both internally and externally. The team engages priority stakeholders through various communication disciplines, including strategic marketing, external and internal communications, digital marketing, event management, and media relations and advocacy.

Your role
As Internal Communications Officer, you will play a key role in strengthening SNV’s internal communications ecosystem, helping staff across countries and functions feel informed, connected, and aligned around our mission and strategic priorities.

Reporting to the Head of Marketing, Communications, and Public Affairs (MCPA), you will work closely with SNV’s Executive Team, our senior leadership, and colleagues worldwide to drive the adoption and effective use of internal communication tools and channels; produce relevant and engaging content; and contribute to strengthening our shared identity, community, and organisational culture.

This is an exciting opportunity for a proactive and creative communicator who is passionate about internal engagement and thrives in an international, purpose-driven environment.

Key job responsibilities

  • Lead the implementation of SNV’s internal communications strategy, continuously building and improving our approach to ensure ongoing relevance
  • Drive adoption and effective use of SNV’s recently refreshed internal communications tooling landscape, supporting teams to embed tools like Viva Engage and Connections into daily practice
  • Develop compelling internal content and campaigns that align with and advance SNV’s organisational priorities and values
  • Maintain strategic oversight and manage content across key internal channels, including our SharePoint intranet, Viva Engage, leadership communications, and quarterly all-staff townhalls
  • Act as a trusted advisor to senior leadership, providing pro-active guidance on internal communications initiatives to strengthen alignment and engagement
  • Mobilise and collaborate with colleagues across functions and countries to ensure consistent messaging, highlight impactful stories, and improve information flows
  • Monitor feedback, user engagement, and key metrics to evaluate effectiveness, continuously improve communication efforts, and adapt as needed
  • Provide light-touch guidance, templates, and training to help teams become confident and effective communicators within SNV’s internal ecosystem
  • Continue to strengthen and build clarity around processes for communicating internally within SNV
  • Manage MCPA’s brand asset library and SharePoint, and support the Head of MCPA in establishing and strengthening a global community of practice for SNV’s in-country marcom officers

Qualifications

We are looking for an experienced, creative, and proactive communicator with a digital-first mindset and a strong interest in internal engagement. Ideally, you bring experience or a keen interest in the international development sector.

To be considered for this role, you will need:

  • A bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, journalism, international development or a related field
  • At least five years of relevant experience, including a minimum of two years focused on internal communications, preferably in a global or multicultural context
  • Proven experience in developing and implementing internal communication strategies and campaigns
  • Excellent writing, editing, and proofreading skills, with the ability to tailor content to different audiences and formats
  • Experience managing digital communication tools and platforms (e.g., SharePoint, Microsoft Teams, Viva Engage, Viva Connections, email marketing tools such as Mailchimp, and collaboration platforms like Trello or Microsoft Planner)

Additionally, we are looking for:

  • A strategic, creative, and conceptual mindset, with enthusiasm for SNV’s mission and a collaborative approach to communication
  • Proven project management skills, with the ability to plan, deliver, and oversee multiple initiatives in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong relationship-building skills, with the ability to foster trust and collaboration across countries and cultures
  • A solutions-oriented and adaptable attitude, with the ability to prioritise effectively and respond to change
  • A proactive, quality-focused, and self-motivated working style, with high energy and perseverance
  • A passion for SNV’s mission and a genuine commitment to building an inclusive, engaging internal culture aligned with SNV’s values
  • Fluency in English (spoken and written); French is a plus
