Join SNV as a Marketing and Communications Officer (Temporary Role)

We are SNV

SNV is a global development partner, deeply rooted in the countries where we operate. We are driven by a vision of a better world: A world where across every society all people live with dignity and have equitable opportunities to thrive sustainably. To make this vision a reality, we need transformations in vital agri-food, energy, and water systems. SNV contributes by strengthening capacities and catalysing partnerships in these sectors. We help strengthen institutions and governance, reduce gender inequalities and barriers to social inclusion, and enable adaptation and mitigation to the climate and biodiversity crises (SNV themes).

Building on 60 years of experience we support our partners with technical and process expertise and methodological rigour. We do this in more than 20 countries in Africa and Asia with a team of approximately 1,600 colleagues. By being adaptable and tailoring our approaches to these different contexts, we can contribute to impact at scale, resulting in more equitable lives for all.

Our core values of people-centeredness and respect, equity and equality, and diversity and inclusion are fundamental to who we are and what we do. This is reflected in our vision, mission, and strategy, which set out our aspirations and commitments as our compass towards 2030.

Job Description

Your Role

As Marketing Communications Officer, you will gain practical experience in global marketing and communications within the international development sector. Based in The Hague, you will be an integral part of SNV’s Global Marketing, Communications, and Public Affairs (MCPA) team, contributing to a range of initiatives that strengthen SNV’s visibility, brand consistency, and global positioning.

You will support the planning, coordination, and delivery of communications activities across corporate, sectoral, and thematic areas such as agri-food, energy, water, or climate. This may include event coordination, content writing and editing (e.g. impact stories), media monitoring, digital storytelling, and enhancing SNV’s brand and communications assets.

Reporting to the Head of MCPA and working closely with colleagues at both global and country levels, you’ll take on a mix of recurring tasks and new, dynamic projects. Each week will offer opportunities to learn, co-create, and contribute in meaningful ways. To succeed in this role, you should bring a flexible and proactive mindset, a collaborative spirit, and a genuine passion for our mission to advance sustainable and equitable development for all.

This position offers a unique opportunity to:

  • Learn about international development
  • Build expertise in global marketing and communications
  • Strengthen your capabilities in content creation, digital storytelling, and project coordination
  • Learn how to tailor content for different platforms and audiences
  • Receive mentorship from professionals in a team environment
  • Develop proficiency in team building and stakeholder collaboration
  • Contribute to work that makes a difference

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in planning and executing communication initiatives and campaigns (e.g., our comms initiative on SNV’s contribution to tackling the Climate Crisis)
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of creative content ideas
  • Write and edit engaging content for SNV's digital platforms, including snv.org and LinkedIn
  • Design visual content using Canva (e.g., social media posts, carousels, infographics, and short videos or animations)
  • Review, update and repurpose existing marketing materials (e.g., brochures, fact sheets, case studies, presentations)
  • Support social media channel management, including basic monitoring and, if needed, responding to comments and messages
  • Support global media monitoring using Meltwater and help prepare the internal media brief
  • Assist with content uploads to snv.org via Storyblok, our content management system

Qualifications

We seek a dynamic, creative, and proactive team player with a digital-first mindset and excellent communication skills who is eager to begin building a career in international development.

To be considered for this role, you will need:

  • A bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, journalism, economics, international development, or a related field
  • A passion for learning about and making a difference in the international development sector
  • Strong writing and verbal communication skills, with the ability to tailor content to diverse audiences
  • Storytelling skills with a visual eye; experience with graphic design and/or video editing is a plus
  • Familiarity with digital marketing tools such as Canva, Trello, Hootsuite, or similar platforms
  • A proactive, quality-focused approach to work, with project management skills and a strong sense of responsibility
  • A creative and innovative mindset, eager to co-create and learn, with a proactive attitude and the resilience to thrive in a fast-paced environment
  • Fluent in English (written and spoken); knowledge of French is a bonus
