The IHC Training Institute (ITI) invites customers from all over the world to learn more about dredging & mining operations, how to operate a dredger and many more related topics.

As an Intern Sales, Marketing and Communication you will join a small team consisting out of two trainers and a manager conducting trainings all around the world. At the training institute in Kinderdijk, we have several classrooms, a studio for online classes and four dredge simulators of which two can be packed into a flight case and fly across the world to our customers.

Part of your job is planning and preparing for the standard trainings at the yard in Kinderdijk. Think about customer communication, course coordination, execution and evaluation; however you will also look into ways to expand the product portfolio, marketing for the department and explore business opportunities. This internship will also allow for ample to time carry out school projects and/or a final thesis.

Examples of final thesis subjects are (re)branding, a business plan for open courses in other countries such as the USA, expansion of the training product portfolio to other market groups, certification of trainings, online marketing- and/or strategy plan, sales plan etc.

A week in the life of an Intern Business & Marketing Training:

Monday morning at the IHC Training Institute, the team gets together and goes over the trainings that just happened or will take place soon. One trainer just got back from theory trainings in Las Vegas, the other is about to go Bangkok, Thailand in three weeks with the Cutter Suction Dredger Simulator. Have we booked the flights, is the hotel confirmed and is the visa arranged? What are the lessons learned from the training in Las Vegas?

Next week we have a Dutch company for in-house training, you will make sure that the trainers and guest lecturers are fully prepared and venues are reserved and set up. You are in contact with the client and participants and made arrangements for their access to the shipyard. You are one step ahead and are already planning a post for the Royal IHC socials.

Time to check the ITI inbox, but then you get a call from a colleague about an internal pump training. Wou check the trainers’ schedules and confirm that the training can be hosted, you will then do the needed arrangements. Is this an opportunity to shoot new material for ITI marketing purposes?

On Friday you check all preparations for the following Monday are done. You’ll be at the yard bright and early to prepare an online training for clients in Australia followed by client visit for a yard tour, ship visit and simulator experiences. Busy day: you attend a meeting to explore a partnership with sector associations and present the plan you had prepared for this.
