Purpose of the job

AkzoNobel’s Internal Audit Function (IAF) plays a vital role in strengthening governance, risk management, and internal control across our global operations. We're seeking a proactive and skilled Audit Manager to join our international team. This is a dynamic role that combines audit execution, stakeholder engagement, and leadership responsibilities—ideal for professionals who want to make an impact in a complex, multinational environment.

Key Responsibilities

As an Audit Manager, you’ll lead independent, risk-based audits and act as a business partner for one or more Business Units or Functional Areas.

One of the Functional Areas is the Information Technology department – therefore a good understanding of IT operations (ITIL/ DevOps), technologies (e.g. SAAS, Azure cloud), and 3rd party assurance methods, is required.

  • Audit Leadership: Plan, manage, and deliver complex audit engagements in line with IIA standards, focusing on key risks and adding real value to the business.
  • Stakeholder Collaboration: Work closely with BU and Function leaders to align audit activities with the organization's risk profile and strategic priorities.
  • Team Management: Supervise, coach, and develop audit team members during audit assignments and, where applicable.
  • Reporting & Insights: Produce high-quality audit reports with practical recommendations, and monitor follow-up on audit findings.
  • Additional Roles (optional): Depending on your experience and interests, you may also support areas such as Data Analytics, Audit Tooling (e.g., TeamMate), or act as a Process Audit Manager.

What you bring

  • A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Accounting, Auditing, Economics, IT, or Business Administration
  • Minimum 8 years of audit experience, preferably in a large international (manufacturing) organization or Big 4 firm
  • Strong understanding of internal control frameworks and IIA’s Global Internal Audit Standards
  • Proven leadership skills, with at least 3 years of experience managing or mentoring audit professionals
  • Fluent in English (written and verbal); additional languages are a plus
  • Willingness and ability to travel globally (up to 30%), occasionally including weekends
  • Audit-related certifications such as CIA, CISA, RA, RE, CPA, or RO are required.
  • Strong understanding of business processes (e.g. Sales, Procurement, Manufacturing, Finance/Controlling, HR) in an SAP environment is required.
  • Familiarity with the use of data analytics in audits is strongly preferred.
