Job Description

You will have the opportunity to define excellent user experience for products and solutions developed by the Image Guided Therapy Systems (IGT-S) business unit. IGT focuses on treating patients better by innovating minimally invasive surgery procedures so they can go back to living the lives they love. This role is focused on the hardware/industrial design which is a key pillar of IGT’s success. If you really want to make an impact on people's lives, this is the opportunity for you! You are responsible for leading the product design direction across multiple projects. For this role specifically we are looking for a candidate with relevant experience in the field of industrial design and design research combined with the following competences:

  • Business impact: Able to influence, inspire, and engage different stakeholders and customers on product level.

  • Best practices and improvements: Support creation/updates and implementation of internal standards and tools, based on deep domain knowledge in product (pre-) development.

  • Team development: Proactively identify opportunities for self-development, and assist onboard and mentor junior designers, and advocate in the Philips design community on product design expertise, and best practices.

  • Team up: Influence cross-functional collaboration and foster innovation in project and team dynamics.

You're the right fit if:

  • Bachelor or Masters degree in Design, Design Research or related discipline, or equivalent professional Design training experience.
  • Minimum 8+ years of relevant professional experience.
  • Demonstrable design or design research experience from relevant companies, agencies, institutions or own consultancy.
  • Experience with complex systems for professional use in a regulated environment with a focus on safety, like in healthcare or equivalent complexity (e.g. automotive or aviation), is preferred.
  • Understands and applies broader business and market context, able to synthesize different perspectives and reframe the design challenge.
  • Independently drives and executes a design strategy within a project team and across projects, thinking holistically in eco-systems.
  • Independently leads design delivery in a program of multiple projects of high complexity with good understanding of budget and time constraints, driving efficiency and holding project level design quality reviews.
  • Works together with or consulting business stakeholders and leadership, actively managing relationships and challenging the status quo to drive innovation and step-up for the user.
  • Effectively guides internal and external resources on project basis.
  • Drives strong user-focused research activities to develop insights for improving the product.
  • Defining product design experience requirements (incl. circularity requirements) and envisioned workflows.
  • Applies solid human factors and ergonomics understanding into the design work.
  • Experience with CAD modelling and tools (e.g. Rhinoceros, SolidWorks), being flexible in adapting towards new tools and way of working where affiliation with AI-powered tools (such as VizCom) is preferred.
  • Creating product design specifications including hardware User Interface and Color Materials and Finishing.

  • Illustrations skills (with e.g. Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator) and presentation skills.
  • Experience with Agile way-of-working, Scrum methodology and SAFe is preferred.
  • Fluent in English, both written and verbal.
