Your aim as a Product Development Engineer

Your mission is to support the full product lifecycle i.e., from concept to manufacturing release, helping Bugaboo deliver market-leading products that are technically robust, beautifully designed, engineered, and globally loved.

You will be part of the Innovation Engineering Product Development team, based at our beautiful headquarters in Amsterdam - a design-led, collaborative environment where creativity, curiosity, and precision go hand in hand. Working across multiple disciplines such as mechanical design, prototyping, testing, documentation, and industrial design, you’ll contribute to shaping products that are seen and used around the world.

With in-house manufacturing in our own factory in China, you’ll stay connected to the full product lifecycle, from concept to production, enabling deeper insights into design-for-manufacturing, quality, and craftsmanship. This direct exposure allows for faster feedback loops, deeper product insight, and a stronger connection to the real-world impact of your product development work. It’s a truly end-to-end experience few companies can offer, and what sets this role apart.

What will you do:

Own Product Subsystems

  • Translate design requirements into technical solutions (assemblies or components) from sketch, to CAD, to production drawings. Work hands-on with prototypes and test rigs to validate product concepts.
  • Collaborate with compliance, quality, and industrial design teams to refine user-centric technical solutions.

Develop and Validate Engineering Solutions

  • Participate in Design Failure Mode and Effects Analysis, tolerance stack-up analysis, and engineering reviews.
  • Investigate failure modes, develop design improvements, and define testing plans for validation testing in collaboration with our test-lab team in China.
  • Iterate on mechanical solutions based on test outcomes to ensure durability, safety, and user satisfaction.

Contribute to Product Launch Readiness

  • Deliver CAD files, Bill of Materials, and engineering documentation into our PDM system.
  • Support design-for-manufacturing reviews and alignment with suppliers. Work cross-functionally to deliver New Product Development milestones and project outcomes.

Drive Quality and Sustainability

  • Propose and implement technical improvements that drive durability, ease of use, and sustainable material use.
  • Collaborate on cost- and risk-optimized designs that maintain Bugaboo’s premium standards.

What you will bring to the table:

  • A bachelor’s or master’s degree in either Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Design Engineering, Product Development, or a related technical discipline.
  • 3–8 years of experience in physical product development: consumer goods, mobility, or similar complex systems.
  • Strong CAD modeling (SolidWorks preferred) and 2D documentation skills, with working knowledge of PDM/PLM systems (Dassault Systèmes is a plus).
  • Solid understanding of mechanical system construction including materials (plastics, aluminum, rubbers), hinges, structural frames, and fasteners.
  • Experience with design validation and testing methods, failure analysis, and test rig setup to evaluate product performance and durability.
  • Nice to have: Knowledge of vehicular or mechanical kinematics, motion control mechanisms, and ergonomics applied to user-interfacing products.

Experience for design-for-manufacturing (DFM) and tooling constraints, especially within injection molding.

Awareness of sustainability practices in design and material selection, with a passion for durability, repairability, and life-cycle thinking.

  • Comfortable switching between creative prototyping and analytical problem solving. You love working iteratively and translating abstract product visions into practical, manufacturable solutions.
  • A collaborative mindset, openness to feedback, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, cross-functional environment.
  • Fluent English communication skills, able to clearly articulate technical concepts to diverse audiences across functions and regions.

What we offer

  • An enthusiastic team of friendly, driven colleagues with love for our mission and brand.
  • An inspirational, inclusive, fast-growing international work environment in which you can make a difference and develop yourself further.
