Description of assignment

Vanderlande is a market leading, global partner for logistic process automation. One of Vanderlande’s key products is the Loopsorter which exist in a so called Crossbelt sorter & a Helix sorter which Vanderlande develops and produces. To strengthen Vanderlande’s market position the Loopsorter is being developed on continuous base. As part of this continuous development, we have defined this assignment.

For root cause analysis of issues, our developers must process a substantial volume of logging data—machines can generate up to 50 MB of text per minute. Each site has a unique configuration and layout, making it challenging to identify the components involved. Some sites are extensive, stretching up to 1300 meters in length. Interpreting this data and understanding the system’s behavior requires significant expertise and time. To streamline this process, we aim to visualize our output.

The environment and architecture for this "logfile player" are already in place, and initial steps toward visualizing the status of the belts have been completed. This assignment focuses on building further upon the existing architecture by visualizing all relevant attributes—making the logfile player an intuitive and valuable tool for analysis that everyone wants to use.

The logfile player was initially developed using Windows Forms without any specific design guidelines. As part of this assignment, it should be styled in accordance with the Vanderlande branding.

Department Description

The Technology department (R&D) plays a key role in the ongoing development of new products and technologies to strengthen our market position and differentiate our solutions. You will be part of the Loopsorter team (Internal System) within the Technology department. This multidisciplinary team develops both the equipment and the control systems for Vanderlande’s Loopsorter systems, including the Crossbelt sorter.

You will join one of the agile teams focused on developing the controller. While you'll be able to fully concentrate on your assignment, you will also have the opportunity to collaborate with team members and gain insights into the software development process.

Tasks/Responsibilities

  • Enhance the existing logfile player by visualizing additional attributes as prioritized by stakeholders, while adhering to the current architecture.
  • Demonstrate the logfile player’s value through a real use case.
  • Deliver a modern, user-friendly manual for using the tool.
  • Define the functional requirements for the input files used by the logfile player.
  • Investigate and implement the necessary steps to convert the logfile player to match the Vanderlande design theme.

Your Profile

  • You are currently enrolled in a technical degree program, preferably in Software Engineering.
  • You possess solid programming skills (e.g., C#, C++, Python).
  • You are independent, proactive, and hands-on.
  • You have a "can-do" mentality.
  • You are a team player and collaborate effectively to achieve project goals.
