Postdoc Researcher: System Dynamics for Modelling Competitive Dynamics

Join us as a Postdoc Researcher in System Dynamics to model competitive dynamics and contribute to cutting-edge research in a Horizon Europe project.

Job description

Are you an expert in system dynamics modelling looking for an exciting research opportunity? We are seeking a Postdoc Researcher to advance our work on competitive dynamics and strategic management. This role focuses on developing a system dynamics model that builds on prior research to explore the competition between firms, particularly in the context of industrial standards. While prior experience in standards competition is not required, it would be an advantage. You will have the opportunity to gain knowledge in this area as you apply your system dynamics modeling expertise.
This project is part of the Horizon Europe initiative, EDU4Standards.eu, offering the opportunity to collaborate with an interdisciplinary consortium of experts and attend project meetings. The system dynamics model you develop will be used in an academic course, where students will engage with a game, developed by our gaming lab, based on your model. This offers you the chance to see the direct impact of your work on learning outcomes.

What you will do:

  • Model Development: Build and refine a system dynamics model simulating firm competition, based on prior research.
  • Game Collaboration: Work with our gaming lab to ensure the game, based on your model, is both engaging and educational.
  • Teaching Case Development: Create a teaching case for use in academic settings, focused on strategic decision-making and competitive dynamics.
  • Project Involvement: Participate in EDU4Standards.eu project meetings, collaborating with a diverse team of experts.
  • Direct Impact: Observe how students interact with the game, gaining insights into how your work enhances educational experiences.

What we offer:

  • A dynamic and collaborative research environment within a prestigious institute.
  • The opportunity to apply your system dynamics expertise to real-world competitive strategy challenges.
  • Close collaboration with experts in strategic management, economics, and gaming.
  • Involvement in the Horizon Europe project EDU4Standards.eu, and the chance to attend international project meetings.
  • Direct impact through your model’s application in a teaching course.
  • A 0.4 FTE position for 1 year.
  • A competitive salary and excellent benefits.

The position is based in the Economics of Technology and Innovation section within the Department of Values, Technology and Innovation at the Faculty of Technology, Policy and Management. For more information, please contact Geerten van de Kaa at g.vandekaa@tudelft.nl.

Applications must be submitted by June 29, with the position starting on September 1st.

If you’re passionate about system dynamics and want to apply your expertise to an exciting research project, apply today!

Job requirements

  • You hold a PhD in System Dynamics, Economics, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • You have strong experience in system dynamics modeling and simulation.
  • You may not have prior experience in standards competition, but you are eager to learn.
  • You have experience with academic writing and research dissemination.
  • You are excited to collaborate with an interdisciplinary team.
