Damen Naval delivers advanced naval vessels to clients all over the globe. By implementing the most innovative technological developments in practice, we continue to push the boundaries of the shipbuilding industry. You can be part of our team! Are you ready for duty?

The role
As the Engineer Structures at Damen Naval, you will contribute directly to the upkeep and maintenance of the Karel Doorman, one of the Royal Netherlands Navy’s key support ships. In this temporary assignment, you will work on structural engineering tasks using NUPAS Cadmatic as the primary design tool. Your focus will be on maintaining and updating structural drawings and documentation, ensuring they align with operational requirements and naval standards. You’ll work in close collaboration with internal and external stakeholders to keep this critical vessel in optimal condition.

Key accountabilities
In this role, your responsibilities will include:

  • Updating and maintaining structural 2D and 3D models for the Karel Doorman using NUPAS Cadmatic.
  • Preparing and modifying construction plans, section drawings, foundation layouts, and deck arrangements.
  • Ensuring all documentation is compliant with relevant naval regulations and internal quality standards.
  • Collaborating with multi-disciplinary teams and naval representatives to resolve structural issues.
  • Advising on technical solutions and improvements related to maintainability and structural integrity.
  • Participating in technical reviews and discussions with stakeholders.
  • Documenting and transferring knowledge to ensure continuity after the assignment ends.

Skills & experience
We are looking for candidates with the following qualifications:

  • A bachelor’s degree in a technical field with at least 3–5 years of relevant experience, or a technical vocational education with at least 7–10 years of experience.
  • Proven experience in structural engineering for ships or offshore platforms.
  • Hands-on experience with NUPAS Cadmatic is a must.
  • Familiarity with maintenance engineering or lifecycle support of naval or complex vessels is preferred.
  • Strong communication skills in both Dutch and English (written and verbal).
  • Flexibility and self-organization in a temporary project context.
  • Excellent references, as a security screening is part of the hiring process.
  • Permanent EU citizenship and passport are both required. Candidates with EU (work) visa or with (also) a non-EU nationality and/or passport are not eligible given the requirements imposed by the military nature of our projects.

What we offer
At Damen Naval, we highly value our employees, and we will support your professional and personal development. We also provide our employees with:

  • A competitive salary and 8% holiday pay.
  • 27 holidays and 13 ADV days.
  • Travel allowance of 23 cents per kilometer.
  • PME-pension arrangement with an employer contribution of 60%.
  • Profit sharing based on company results.
  • Flexibility to work from home up to two days a week.
  • Additional benefits including a bicycle plan and company fitness.

Please note that due to the military nature of our projects, only candidates who have permanent EU nationality can be considered for vacancies at Damen Naval. Unfortunately, we are not allowed to process candidates who (also) have a non-EU passport or nationality.

A pre-employment and security screening and investigation form part of the recruitment process.
