Damen Services provides lifecycle support services with a strong focus on Damen built vessels. The range of services stretches from reactive and corrective, triggered by calls from our customers, up to services with a pro-active market approach and predictive maintenance elements.

The role

As a Manager Operations for Area 2 (Americas) in Damen Services, you are responsible for managing multiple operational processes within the service portfolio of the Americas region. You ensure that the desired services and products meet the specific requirements of the customer, and that the quality standards, delivery reliability, and profitability of the department are achieved.

The service portfolio delivered in the region ranges from first line warranty support, delivery of services connected to new built vessels, execution of maintenance and repair projects, technical assistance, long term service agreements and vessel dockings. Your focus is to deliver this service portfolio for Damen in the area and seek for operational improvements.

You serve as the primary operational information source for the area and service hubs. You take on a coaching role to enhance cooperation and the development of operational capabilities in the area. You are commercially aware and able to proactively identify opportunities with existing customers and use this as input towards account management to further expand the service business within the area.

Key accountabilities

  • Lead a team of around 15 professionals, and support them in their professional growth;
  • Management of departmental budgets, capacity and processes in accordance with guidelines;
  • Create and maintain an annual capacity plan;
  • Maintain administrative discipline for your team in line with division’s work agreements on portfolio and warranty management, to secure predictable deliverables and result and set priorities when needed;
  • Maintain the relation with the Area service hubs to continuously coach, develop and assist the local operational teams;
  • Maintain relationships with purchasing and supply chain and provide input for supplier evaluation;
  • Contribute to the Damen Services policy plan and monitor operational processes;
  • Keep track of time registration and monitor productivity;
  • Initiate and evaluate improvements at the product, service, and process levels.

Skills & experience

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering (with a focus on maritime applications) or technical or business administration education (preferably with commercial experience);
  • Overview: Skillfully manage and monitor situations and processes, swiftly identify issues, and tackle them systematically while considering all potential impacts;
  • Relevant work experience in an international environment with ability to connect with customers and stakeholders to understand their needs;
  • The ability to translate vision and market developments into concrete plans and deliverables;
  • Direct others in their work fulfillment and realization of established results, in a pragmatic and motivated way;
  • Networker with a variety of stakeholders within Damen Services and the Damen Group, such as Service Hubs, Service Lines, Account Management, New Build Divisions, Product Groups, R&D, IT/IM, DFS, etc;
  • Good verbal and written communication skills in English and Dutch;
  • Willingness and ability for occasional travel into the Area.
