The workboats Division represents one of the four ship-newbuild domains of Damen Shipyards, alongside Offshore & Specialized Vessels, Yachting and Naval. Workboats focuses on designing, engineering, building and commissioning of Workboats, such as High Speed Craft, Fast Ferries, Stationary Dredgers and Tugs.

The development of Technology within the Shipbuilding industry is increasing fast. Damen Workboats wants to be in the forefront of these developments and is constantly looking for new ways to develop, design, standardize and optimize innovative systems.

The Technology Management department of the division Workboats is responsible for technology development and standardization of the ship’s systems portfolio based on modular and scalable solutions.

In order to achieve our goals, we are looking for a System Analyst for the system platform team “IT/OT on board” in the Technology Management department.

A system platform team is a multi-disciplinary team responsible for a so-called system platform. The system platform team takes care of the development, standardization and maintenance of the entire (standard) system during its full life cycle. For technical content, supply chain, production and quality control, knowledge management and documentation for in service support.

The System platform IT/OT on board is setting the fundamentals needed for software development and digital integration, adding value to our products and realizing safe & secure operations for our customers.

The role:

As a Digital Integrator / System Analyst you will be part of IT/OT on board System Platform team within the Damen division Workboats. You will represent the Digital solution domain, next to Shipbuilding, Mechanical and Electrical domains. You will work on the next digital innovation of the Damen Ship’s Automation Suite that controls core technologies in Damen-built Workboats and brings digital value to improve the operational excellence of our customers.

You will design standardized software systems and controls given a set of requirements, ready for the digital age, for Workboats. You will be deeply involved during the development and standardization of the technology for the workboats portfolio by other system platforms, ensuring the digital integration is being done and documented with standardized, modular and cyber secure software as result.

You will work in multi-disciplinary teams and in close cooperation with the System owner(s) IT/OT on board, the software development team and the operational IT/OT on board team.

Beside your role within this system platform, you will be connected to one or two other system platforms (E.g. Electric & Hybrid Propulsion, Alternative Fuels, Main Machinery, ...) taking the responsibility for the Digital integration.

Key accountabilities:

In this exciting role you will be contribute to the teams responsibility of:

• The digital integration of new technology and standardization of modular and scalable software for the system families, variants and options covering the needs of the complete Damen Workboats portfolio;
• Setting digital requirements for technology by considering business needs and market opportunities;
• Converting requirements to functional and technical designs detailing how to get the best out of the IT on board, that can be used in a standardized way in our design processes
• Translate design into the control & automation requirements and ensure data on board converts to digital value.
• As digital “product owner” for your domain you will deliver input to the software development team to develop software.
• Deliver standard and high-quality software, ready to be configurated and deployed on board by the operation team;
• Ensure maintainable systems with a fit in the operational management processes;
• Guide the development of technology with suppliers, partners by setting needs and requirements and reviewing the technical solutions;
• Contribute to knowledge management by documenting knowledge in system principles, instructions and trainings;
• Advise and support the Product platform teams with selection and implementation of the technology into the ship types product portfolio;
• Write detailed test and validation plan to ensure compliance with regulations and to validate the requirements during simulation and testing.

Skills & experience:

You are hands-on and have a broad technology interest and capable to get the essence of functions and technical possibilities of the embedded platforms to translate it to concrete opportunities. Next to that,

You have:

• An academic level with a bachelor and/or master’s degree in a technical direction, e.g. Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Process Automation or Electrical Engineering or other technical study which involves integration of complex systems.
• Affinity with software development;
• Experience with scripting languages (Python, MATLAB, Simulink, ..) is a plus;
• Knowledge of agile development methodologies, like Scrum or XP;
• Experience with the application of Systems Engineering principles;
• You have a high-quality consciousness and accuracy;
• Effective communication skills in English, Dutch is a plus.
