Optics Internship: Straylight Prediction Model

This internship is within the System Performance DUV department that predicts and optimizes how our scanners will perform in their natural habitat: our customer’s wafer fab. We perform this task for DUV scanners.

Within the System Performance department, the Imaging group works on the principles of our lithographic system, understanding the contribution of various system components (aberrations, focus, dose, illumination, dynamics, etc.) on the basic imaging functionality, and collaborates with various functional clusters as well as our supporting competencies (resist, reticle, wafer metrology).

Your Assignment

Within our group, we are developing a model aimed at predicting the scanner performance from various contributors - one of them being straylight. Your assignment will be to:

  • Understand the physical background of straylight and improve our current model;

  • Understand the Point Spread Function (PSF);

  • Test conversion of physical data to the PSF model.

This is a master apprentice internship (to gain work experience) for a minimum of 6 months and 32-40 hours per week. The starting date is ASAP, latest in September 2025.

Your Profile

To be the perfect match for this internship you:

  • Have a background in physics or optics;

  • Have an affinity with physics concepts related to imaging;

  • Have knowledge of scientific programming languages such as MATLAB or Python;

  • Are a detail-oriented, critical thinker, and able to work independently;

  • Enjoy working in a dynamic team.

Other requirements you need to meet:

  • You are enrolled at an educational institute for the entire duration of the internship;

  • If you are a non-EU citizen studying in the Netherlands, your university is willing to sign the documents relevant for doing an internship (i.e., Nuffic agreement).

  • You need to be located in the Netherlands to perform your internship. If you’re currently living/studying outside of the Netherlands, your CV/motivation letter should include the willingness to relocate.
