We are currently looking for a Senior FPGA Specialist to join the team in Delft.

As a Senior FPGA Specialist, you will be contributing to high-end optical and mechatronic systems for applications in space exploration, satellite communications, and the semiconductor industry. The team focuses on bridging the gap between academic research and industry applications, developing cutting-edge solutions and prototypes for complex technical challenges.

The free-space classical and quantum optical laser communications program has expanded significantly in recent years, involving collaborations with small and medium enterprises, space agencies, and research institutes both in the Netherlands and internationally.

Main responsibilities

  • Develop and optimize FPGA designs using Xilinx/AMD toolchains, focusing on MPSoCs and RFSoCs.
  • Configure processor systems and develop software/drivers for Bare Metal and embedded real-time Linux.
  • Implement firmware and low-level software for communication protocols (UART, GbE, USB) and DDR memory.
  • Conduct performance testing using RF lab equipment such as spectrum analyzers and oscilloscopes.
  • Contribute to multidisciplinary projects in optical communications, quantum optics, and optomechatronics.

Requirements

  • PhD or MSc in Electrical Engineering (or a related field) with at least 10 years of relevant experience.
  • Strong expertise in Xilinx/AMD FPGA design, development, and testing.
  • Extensive experience in VHDL and FPGA development, preferably with MPSoCs and RFSoCs.
  • Proven ability to configure processor systems and develop software for embedded Linux and Bare Metal environments.
  • Hands-on experience with RF lab equipment and performance testing.
  • Ability to work independently and take the lead in FPGA-related tasks within multidisciplinary projects.
  • Strong problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills, with experience in technical reporting and presentations.
  • A pioneering mindset, comfortable with uncertainty and technical challenges.

Experience in free-space optical communications, quantum optics, space applications, or optomechatronics is a plus. 🤖

Our story

At S[&]T we contribute to a safer life on earth by translating space data into valuable and actionable insights. We oversee data from instruments to application, and apply our expertise within our software frameworks, information products and consultancy.

Our society relies on space and scientific instruments for climate change monitoring, navigation, defence and national security, and other crucial services we all use in our daily lives. These instruments produce an enormous quantity of complex data, and our goal is to unlock its value.

We have more than 20 years of experience working on instrument calibration, the creation of data quality monitoring tools, the development of real-time data processing frameworks, and the development of application-specific algorithms. With this, we help organisations, governments and industries to strengthen their information position and thereby improve their decision making. We focus on the following domains: Space & Science, Defence & Security, Environment & Sustainability, and High-Tech Consulting.
