About this job

We are currently looking for an FPGA Engineer to join the team in Delft.

You will be working within the Defence & Security business unit, where we are working on innovative solutions that leverage space technologies. You will be active in the domains of Positioning, Navigation and Timing (PNT) and Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR). In the PNT domain we are developing antenna array technologies for various applications, for example for GNSS RF interference mitigation. In the ISR domain, we focus on developing advanced digital signal processing and machine learning algorithms for implementation on satellites. Common application areas include Defence, Space and Critical Infrastructure. This role involves defining system requirements, designing digital circuits and processing chains, and selecting and integrating FPGA and embedded system components. Additionally, software development will be important, particularly for system control and signal processing. The position also includes system design, testing, verification, and validation activities, both in laboratory environments and during field operations.

This position provides the opportunity to work and think across domains, find overlapping technologies, design innovative solutions and contribute to product development in a dynamic, high-tech organization.

Main responsibilities

  • Define requirements based on stakeholder input and design digital systems to meet these requirements
  • Develop, implement and integrate hardware components into low-Size Weight and Power (SWAP) applications
  • Design test benches for test, verification and validation of our hardware systems
  • Lead small projects and tasks in large projects
  • Support and guide colleagues in FPGA / Embedded system development

Requirements

  • Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Applied Physics or a related technical field, or extensive work experience equivalent to these qualifications
  • Experience with digital system designs
  • VHDL, C, C++, Python is a must, System Verilog is nice to have
  • Strong communication skills in English, both verbally and in writing. Dutch is an advantage
  • Affinity with working for Defence. Possibility to obtain security clearances (Dutch, NATO, EU) is a must

Our story

At S[&]T we contribute to a safer life on earth by translating space data into valuable and actionable insights. We oversee data from instruments to application, and apply our expertise within our software frameworks, information products and consultancy.

Our society relies on space and scientific instruments for climate change monitoring, navigation, defence and national security, and other crucial services we all use in our daily lives. These instruments produce an enormous quantity of complex data, and our goal is to unlock its value.

We have more than 20 years of experience working on instrument calibration, the creation of data quality monitoring tools, the development of real-time data processing frameworks, and the development of application-specific algorithms. With this, we help organisations, governments and industries to strengthen their information position and thereby improve their decision making. We focus on the following domains: Space & Science, Defence & Security, Environment & Sustainability, and High-Tech Consulting.
