About the role

You will be responsible for the review, negotiation and drafting of commercial contracts involving various types of production and non-production spend, including raw materials, packaging, contract manufacturing, media/IT, logistics, freight and warehousing. You will advise procurement professionals on the legal aspects of relationships with suppliers and other third parties, including disputes, and assist to manage those relationships in a way that balances legal risk with business opportunities. You will also be responsible to identify compliance risks, such as bribery and corruption, anti-competitive behaviour, and restrictions involving sanctions and data privacy, and assist the business to address and resolve those risks in coordination with other members of the Legal & Compliance function.

The role will report to the Head of Legal, Procurement, Essential Home.

Your responsibilities

  • Review, draft and negotiate contracts for the global procurement function.
  • Advise the global procurement function, and other members of the business from time to time, on the legal aspects of relationships with suppliers and other third parties, including the management of disputes and potential disputes.
  • Identify and manage compliance risks in the areas of anti-bribery/corruption, competition law, sanctions and data privacy as they relate to legal relationships managed by the global procurement function.
  • Develop and implement tools to assist the procurement function in managing legal and compliance risks in common activities such as third party assessment, tendering and contract negotiations.

The experience we're looking for

  • Qualification to practice law in a common law jurisdiction (preferably the UK, Singapore, the US, Canada, Australia or New Zealand).
  • 3-5 years of experience in the review, negotiation and drafting of commercial contracts, preferably in respect of the supply of products and services and involving multiple jurisdictions.
  • Native-level spoken and written English.
  • Work experience in a multi-national environment, with experience in the UK/Europe/North America preferred.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong stakeholder management skills.
  • Strong legal and commercial acumen.
