What you do as an Airport Pavement Specialist

As Airport Pavement Specialist you work on projects over the globe, sometimes visiting a project to make sure our pavement designs adhere to the highest standards. In this role you are responsible for the following:

  • Collection and interpretation of field investigation data.
  • Structural analysis of airport pavements worldwide.
  • Interaction within a multi-disciplinary team to ensure fully integrated pavement solutions.
  • Interacting with clients in developing state-of-the-art pavement design solutions.
  • Providing technical support to site supervision teams and advising on quality control matters.
  • R&D to further strengthen our worldwide reputation in the aviation sector.
  • Contributing to project proposals and business development.

As the position offers global exposure where you will be working on international projects and gain valuable experience in diverse environments, it is expected that you travel for short and medium-term assignments to other countries.

You will be part of our Airport Asset Design Civil advisory group in The Hague (Delft in May 2025), where we work with approximately 50 colleagues on projects in the Netherlands and for international clients. As a designer, you will collaborate internally with other departments within NACO and RHDHV. With more than 40 nationalities and 230 colleagues at NACO, the working language is English. The team is very experienced and will gladly help you on your way in your career.

What you bring

You have a master’s degree in civil engineering, preferably with a specialization in pavement design, accompanied by 0-5 years of relevant experience. Alternatively, 5-10 years of hands-on experience as pavement engineer.

  • Proficiency in pavement design methods, including linear elastic and mechanistic-empirical approaches,
  • Familiarity with software tools for pavement analysis and design,
  • Experience with specifying geotechnical and pavement investigations and interpretation of associated test results (e.g. analysis Heavy Weight Deflectometer (HWD) test results).
  • Understanding of technical specifications and standards, such as FAA, ICAO, EASA, ASTM, and Euronorm.
  • You are a team player with a problem-solving mindset.
  • Client oriented and conceptual and creative ability to approach and solve complex problems.
