About Ahold Delhaize

We’re Ahold Delhaize, one of the world’s largest food retail groups and a leader in both supermarkets and e-commerce. Together with our 17 strong local retail brands in the United States, Europe and Indonesia, we make a meaningful difference in the lives of our brands’ customers, our people and the world around us. We offer a highly dynamic, international work environment in which our associates thrive.

Your new work environment

As a Scrum Master, you will be joining our Tech department. Technology is vital to Ahold Delhaize and its entire family of brands. As a global team, we support and accelerate the tech transformation and IT optimization of our company and brands. By providing the best possible IT strategy, infrastructure and technology, we enable the company to strengthen our position as a leading omnichannel retailer. We’re a highly energetic team – our members are from different cultures, all over the world – with a very innovative mindset and a truly global view. We collaborate regularly across countries and brands. We are eager for continuous transformation within an ever-changing environment, constantly seeking new, innovative technologies and processes to stay ahead of the curve. If you want to learn from the best, the Technology department really is the place to be.

You will be given the freedom and responsibility to take ownership of your work and broaden your horizons by working together with knowledgeable colleagues from different countries who have an abundance of expertise in many areas. We will continually invest in you and help you build on your talents and skills for the future.

Key responsibilities of your role

Your role is highly diverse and encompasses various responsibilities. Here are the key ones:

Facilitator, Coach & Impediment Solver:
  • Ensure that all Scrum ceremonies (Daily Standups, Sprint Planning, Sprint Reviews, and Sprint Retrospectives) are organized, time-boxed, and run effectively, promoting team collaboration and communication.
  • Guide the team in understanding and applying Scrum practices, principles, and values, helping them to self-organize and improve their performance and efficiency over time.
  • Promote an Agile Way of Working & mindset for various stakeholders.
  • Identify technical problems and guide teams towards solutions.
  • Help teams on their journey to becoming high-performing.
Tracking and Reporting Progress:
  • Monitor and report on key metrics like velocity, burndown charts, and sprint goals, providing transparency on the team's progress and challenges.
Technical Improvements and Innovations:
  • Identify and lead technical improvements.
  • Be involved in processes such as code reviews, deployments, and coding.
  • Optimize and improve these processes.
Building High-Performing Teams:
  • Coach and advise teams using your technical and people knowledge.
  • Act as a triage for issues and questions before they are assigned to DevOps Engineers.
  • Ensure DevOps engineers can focus on developing and managing software.
Change Agent:
  • Enable teams to continuously grow.
  • Create an engineering-focused culture.
  • Act autonomously, identify opportunities and challenges, develop an action plan, and execute it.
Value Stream Management/Business Value:
  • Coach and guide teams to create business & customer value.
  • Ensure good collaboration between teams, Product Owners, and other stakeholders.
  • Guide short cycle planning, ensuring dependencies and risks are well mapped out.
DevOps:
  • Help teams take ownership of the product.
  • Ensure data flow is used to set priorities and make the right decisions.
  • Arrange support with the team for the availability and performance of the product or service.
  • Set up a good DevOps flow where as many processes as possible are automated.
Handling Payroll-Critical Incidents & Urgent Fixes
  • Ensure high-priority bugs (e.g., miscalculations in salaries, incorrect tax deductions) are addressed within sprint cycles or as urgent fixes.
  • Facilitate communication between IT teams, HR, and other parties as IAM & Integration to resolve payroll disruptions quickly.
  • Organize retrospectives for payroll failures to prevent similar issues in the future.
Managing Payroll-Specific Peak Periods
  • Adapt sprint planning to account for high-demand periods, such as year-end tax reporting, merit increases, and annual bonus processing.
  • Coordinate load-testing activities to ensure payroll systems can handle peak transaction volumes.
  • Ensure that technical debt and infrastructure improvements are prioritized to avoid payroll system slowdowns.
Driving Continuous Improvement in Payroll IT Agile Practices
  • Identify and remove bottlenecks in payroll-related Agile processes, such as dependencies between HR and IT teams.
  • Advocate for automation of payroll testing, deployments, and data validation.
  • Foster a culture of Agile maturity while balancing the stability payroll systems require.

What’s in it for you?

Aside from what we ask of you in this role, we also have a great deal to offer you: plenty of growth opportunities and various cross-brand career options; flexible working hours; a hybrid working model (we ask you to spend at least 50% of your working time at the office); and the chance to drive meaningful change on a global scale. You can look forward to a good work-life balance, and the chance to work in an inclusive environment that wholeheartedly encourages growth and welcomes you just the way you are.

Plus:

  • A gross annual salary in up to 67k
  • Attractive bonuses
  • A first-rate pension plan
  • 45 vacation days per year (25.5 vacation days + 19.5 paid-leave days)
  • Travel expenses or an NS travel card
  • A laptop and smartphone

Requirements

We think you’ll be best geared for success if you meet the following requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Business Economics, or a comparable study
  • 5-7 years of relevant experience
  • Experience in Agile portfolio management
  • Knowledge and experience with agile frameworks such as SAFe, Scrum, XP, and product- and project portfolio management
  • Extensive knowledge of processes, methods, structures, and cultures within business and IT/Technology organizations
  • Expert knowledge regarding IT governance and (project) portfolio management
  • Strong verbal, written, and presentation skills
  • Fluent in English (both spoken and written)

Aside from these hard skills, we think you should also bring some much-valued soft skills to the table: an entrepreneurial mindset, outspoken communication skills, and a proactive approach. In addition to these, a high level of creativity, empathy, and enthusiasm will take you far.

At Ahold Delhaize and our local brands, we broadly define diversity as being inclusive of thoughts and skills, generational differences, LGBTQ+, gender, race and ethnicity, disabilities, nationalities and more, and we accept all people for who they are.
