Engineering Internship: Manufacturing Cycle Time

This internship is within the Defectivity and Optical Lifetime Solutions department of ASML. Manufacturing and Equipment Engineers' mission is to optimize the reliability, availability, serviceability, and cycle time of precision manufacturing equipment as it moves from the early development phase to operations at international customer sites. They make sure that all work instructions, diagnostics, tools, trainings and spare parts are available for the manufacturing and customer-support operational sectors.

Your Assignment

During a buildup of a system in the factory, several procedures in a row (sequence) are executed. There are currently timings specified for each procedure (A-times). However, for several reasons we see differences in timings and procedures are taking longer due to disturbances (B-times). When this occurs, machines are getting delayed. Your internship assignment is mainly about investigating manufacturing cycle time and proposing improvements.

Some of your tasks may be:

  • Investigate A and B-time contributors and disturbances through data analysis;
  • Find the biggest A and B-time differences and study the procedure/action;
  • Go to the cleanroom during these actions and investigate further the causes of disturbances;
  • Look for small adaptions which can gain time (quick wins) during your investigation and look for any implementable improvements;
  • Present all the outcomes/report regularly and at the end of your internship.

This is a Bachelor (graduation/apprentice) or Master (apprentice) internship for 4 to 12 months, working minimum 4 days per week. The start date of this internship is as soon as possible.

Your Profile

To be a fit for this assignment, you:

  • Are a Bachelor or Master student in Engineering (Mechanical, Chemical, or Industrial, etc.) or a related field;
  • Have experience with Microsoft Office applications;
  • Are able to do independent research;
  • Have strong communication skills in English and interpersonal skills.

Other requirements you need to meet:

  • You are enrolled at an educational institute for the entire duration of the internship;
  • You are located in the Netherlands to perform your internship. In case you are currently living/studying outside of the Netherlands, your CV/motivation letter includes the willingness to relocate;
  • If you are a non-EU citizen, studying in the Netherlands, your university is willing to sign the documents relevant for doing an internship (i.e., Nuffic agreement).
