In Silicon technologies, PTAT and bandgap circuits are commonly used to create respectively a current proportional to temperature and a constant voltage. These currents and voltages are used to bias circuits and compensate for temperature dependence. In GaN (Gallium Nitride), these circuits are not commonly found. Hence, a realization in GaN would avoid the use of an external Silicon circuit to generate these voltages and currents.
This project aims to investigate the feasibility of a PTAT and/or bandgap circuit using a depletion mode GaN HEMT MMIC technology.
The research can start by a literature search on such circuits in Silicon, GaN, or similar technologies and make an overview of possible options, advantages, and disadvantages. Followed by implementation using available technologies. It might be that measurements over temperature on existing components are needed to check the models to be used.
