Patagonia is an outdoor apparel company founded in 1973. At a time when all life on earth is under threat of extinction, we aim to use the resources we have—our business, our investments, our voice and our imagination—to influence changes needed to protect our planet. A registered B Corporation and founding member of 1% for the Planet, Patagonia is recognised internationally for its commitment to product quality and environmental activism, contributing over $145 million in grants and in-kind donations to thousands of grassroots environmental groups around the world.

Your role:

We’re in business to save our home planet. Your role will contribute to this by leading and mentoring the Data Engineering team, driving the design, development, and optimization of data pipelines, systems, and architectures.

This role focuses on implementing scalable, robust, and secure data engineering solutions, ensuring alignment with regional and global data strategies, and enabling data-driven decision-making.

Main tasks:

  • Lead the design and implementation of sustainable, scalable data architectures, including data pipelines, ETL processes, and data storage solutions.
  • Guide and mentor a team of two data engineers, fostering skill development and innovation.
  • Collaborate with global teams to establish efficient data infrastructure using appropriate tools and technologies.
  • Adhere to Agile and DevOps methodologies in the team's workflows, focusing on sprint planning, product backlog management, and task prioritization.
  • Ensure adherence to Global Data Governance Guidelines, maintaining data quality, security, and compliance with international standards.
  • Implement and enforce data governance standards (access control, data lineage, and retention policies) in collaboration with the global data governance team.
  • Develop and oversee data quality metrics and frameworks, ensuring reliable and accurate datasets for business use.
  • Partner with the Analytics and Insights team to support portfolio, BI engineering efforts and change management while being a stakeholder on prioritization efforts and an SME for data engineering initiatives.
  • Partner with Technical Architects and global data architecture teams to ensure data engineering solutions align with organizational goals.
  • Drive adoption of modern tools, technologies, and practices, such as cloud-based solutions and CI/CD pipelines, to enhance data engineering processes.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to evaluate and implement emerging data technologies that align with the company's vision.
  • Proactively manage incidents, system changes, and updates related to data ingestion and structures, ensuring minimal disruption and high availability.
  • Establish and maintain a Data Knowledge Base to support data literacy initiatives across the organization.
  • Ensure compliance with data security, GDPR, and data privacy standards across all platforms.

What we’re looking for:

  • An inclusive mindset
  • 5+ years of experience in data engineering, software engineering, or a related technical role.
  • 2+ years of experience in a managerial role, leading teams of data engineers, software developers, or technical specialists.
  • Proficiency in developing and maintaining data pipelines using tools like DBT, Logic Apps, or Boomi.
  • Experience with modern data architectures, including data lakes, data warehouses (preferably Snowflake), and cloud-based solutions.
  • Strong knowledge of ETL processes, data modelling, and database management.
  • Proficiency with programming languages such as Python, SQL, or Java.
  • Familiarity with data visualization tools (e.g., Power BI, Tableau).
  • Understanding of ERP systems like Dynamics 365 F&O or similar.
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices in data engineering.
  • Knowledge of cloud platforms such as Azure, AWS, or Google Cloud is a plus.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical audiences.
  • A self-starter with strong problem-solving and critical-thinking abilities.
  • Fluent English.
  • A love of the outdoors and an interest in saving our home planet and making a positive impact through your work.
