Job Purpose
Liberty Global is seeking an experienced legal professional to fill the role of Head of Legal Services for our subsidiary Liberty Blume. This position dual reports to the legal department of Liberty Global Ltd. as a Vice President and to the Chief Commercial Officer of Liberty Blume as part of the Senior Leadership Team. There is an opportunity for growth into the General Counsel role as the company expands.
As Head of Legal Services, you will play a key role in developing Liberty Blume's legal, compliance, and governance framework. You will protect our organization's interests in a changing business environment. As a valued member of the Senior Leadership Team, you will offer strategic legal advice that balances business growth and regulatory compliance. You will collaborate with senior collaborators, including Liberty Global's leadership, and coordinate legal resources to achieve mutual success. Lead initiatives to manage regulatory and legal risks, ensuring compliance with industry standards and laws, while achieving our business objectives responsibly and ethically.
Key Accountabilities
Strategic Legal Advisory and Leadership
- Serve as a trusted advisor to the Senior Leadership Team, providing high-quality legal advice on corporate, financial, commercial, and operational matters
- Lead in addressing complex legal issues, ensuring alignment with business strategy and regulatory obligations
- Drive proactive risk assessment and mitigation strategies, anticipating legal challenges associated with business expansion and operations
- Contribute significantly to the company's multinational strategy
Collaborator Coordination and Matrix Navigation
- Participate in key strategy-setting discussions and initiatives to drive company development during Liberty Blume's growth phase
- Build and maintain positive relationships with senior collaborators, encouraging trust and alignment in a matrixed environment
- Manage relationships with senior Liberty Global legal personnel, ensuring effective prioritization and utilization of legal resources provided under the master services agreement
- Guide collaborators towards achieving mutually beneficial outcomes, addressing competing priorities, and managing conflicts constructively
Corporate Governance and Compliance
- Coordinate Liberty Blume's governance framework, ensuring standard methodologies in corporate governance
- Ensure compliance with statutory obligations, including filings, board matters, and regulatory reporting
- Champion the organization's compliance with legal and ethical standards, including GDPR, cybersecurity, and data protection laws
Commercial Contracts and Negotiations
- Lead the drafting, review, and negotiation of complex commercial agreements, including B2B sales, supplier contracts, and strategic partnerships
- Develop and implement standard contractual frameworks to improve efficiency and consistency
- Work with multinational clients and suppliers
Regulatory Risk Management
- Monitor and respond to changes in the regulatory landscape, ensuring Liberty Blume's compliance and readiness
- Establish and coordinate risk management frameworks that safeguard the organization's reputation and operational integrity
- Work with local counsel in other jurisdictions to assess risks, licenses, permits, insurance and other considerations as part of Liberty Blume's entrepreneurial initiatives
Dispute Resolution
- Manage legal disputes through negotiation, mediation, or litigation while balancing commercial objectives and legal prudence
- Provide proactive consideration of discovery and disclosure issues
Leadership in Mergers, Acquisitions, and Financing
- Provide expert legal mentorship in M&A transactions, financing agreements, and investment initiatives
- Support the organization's growth objectives while managing associated risks
- Develop proactive strategies and creative solutions to multinational challenges
Employment Law and Organizational Support
- Support HR in addressing employment law matters, ensuring adherence to legal obligations and standard processes
- Foster a culture of compliance and collaboration across the organization
Knowledge & Experience
- Qualified legal professional in the UK, Ireland or the United States with 10+ years of post-qualification experience
- Comprehensive background in commercial law, M&A, and corporate governance and compliance
- Experience working in or advising small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), particularly in the services sector
- Outstanding drafting and negotiation capabilities
- Demonstrated success in balancing legal risks with commercial objectives
- In-depth knowledge of regulatory frameworks relevant to our industry
- Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate complex legal concepts to diverse collaborators
- Experience in successfully implementing collaborative working practices
- Proven ability to work independently and prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment
- Experience in start-up/scale-up environments
- Strong technical skills to contribute to a business with a technological focus
- Creative and analytical problem-solving abilities
- Forward-thinking, commercial approach with proactive attitude
- Skilled at building and maintaining strong professional relationships
- Demonstrated ability to navigate challenging conversations professionally while protecting business interests
- Foreign language skills are encouraged
- Experience with European-wide contracting is valued
