Role Description:

This role is based in Amsterdam and within the Marketplace Business Unit. The Marketplace mission is to truly understand traveler needs and behavior across multiple verticals, design and implement common traveler-facing product experiences, steward travelers to the right vertical offering, and grow Connected Trips, where travelers not only book hotels or homes, but also flights, car rentals, rides, and local attractions with us.

In the Multi Vertical Search track, a core component of Marketplace, our mission is to create a truly flexible and multi-dimensional search experience for our travellers. One of the foundational capabilities to deliver this mission is the ability for our travelers to express their search intent naturally without constraints to find anything they need for their trip. This requires us to evolve and maintain our core search engine and the underlying data assets that are needed to bring the search engine to life.

Key Job Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Rapidly developing next-generation scalable, flexible, and high-performance data pipelines.
  • Solving issues with data and data pipelines, prioritizing based on customer impact.
  • End-to-end ownership of data quality in our core datasets and data pipelines.
  • Experimenting with new tools and technologies, driving innovative engineering solutions to meet business requirements regarding performance, scaling, and data quality.
  • Providing tools that improve data quality company-wide.
  • Providing self-organizing tools that help the analytics community discover data, assess quality, explore usage, and find peers with relevant expertise.
  • Serving as the main point of contact for technical and business stakeholders regarding data engineering issues, such as pipeline failures and data quality concerns.
  • Acquiring technical, behavioral and interpersonal competence advancement via on-the-job opportunities, experimental projects, hackathons, conferences, and active community participation.

Qualifications & Skills:

  • You have more than +3 years of professional experience as a Software Developer/Data Engineer and hold a degree in a quantitative field.
  • You have proven experience developing data pipelines in either Python or Java or Scala.
  • You have built production data pipelines in the cloud, setting up data-lake and server-less solutions; ‌you have hands-on experience with schema design and data modeling.
  • You have experience designing systems E2E and knowledge of basic concepts (lb, db, caching, NoSQL, etc).
  • You have knowledge of Spark, CDC, Kafka, Cassandra, Airflow, Snowflake, DBT or equivalent tools.
  • You have experience with Data Warehousing and ETL/ELT pipelines.
  • You are driven by petabytes of our data via MySQL, Hadoop, Cassandra, etc.
  • Excellent communication skills - verbal and written.
  • Familiarity with the Hadoop Ecosystem is an asset.
